Leaf spring replacement

hmmmm......none of them broken studs look very wet to me.......sure you didnt spray them with lacquer thinner instead of PB by mistake? I'm sorry

Sharp eye... I did it pretty fast, and that side of the car was against my garage wall so I was in a weird position. I may have just missed. :)

But I definitely soaked the other side, and it broke too.

That's prolly more the concrete-like undercoating than rust. Sometimes even a good soaking wont work on all that. That crap laughs at wire wheels and snickers at sandblasters. Get a propane torch from home depot and dont pick up a wrench again till you do. Serious

Nothing to torch now, I've already broken everything. :)

Too bad you didn't think to use a propane torch... It is a bit slower than ocy/actelene but it works.

I used PP to take mine all off.

I've broken those studs on the front hanger too... so don't feel bad, They make replacement studs, but I've used bolts instead when I didn't have anything else.

IMHO, if you are doing a lot of work on old cars... especially rusty old cars.... you need to think about buying an oxyactelene torch and some sort of impact wrench. The torch makes quick work of things like U-bolts. You can blow them off with the cutting torch (I usually do) and heating nuts becomes real easy. A girly propane torch won't heat as fast or as hot as a much more manly oxyactelene torch will. You need to heat the nuts fast and get working on them before the bolt gets just as hot.

I broke Hanger bolts to I just knocked them out with the hammer and went and got grade 8 bolts with lock-nuts works fine I read other people did that to.

I really hate that old adage...

I know. . .

Now now... I always use at least two other modes of support in addition to the jack, usually wood beams and heavy jack stands. Anyway, I was away on vacation, left it all bolted together but not truly useable. Ordering new front hanger studs and those Mancini shock mount studs now. Thanks for the tips!

I got them from General Spring in KC on the advice of Jason/68plymouth383. I wish I'd gotten a little more arch because my car came out closer to level than Jason's blue car above.

mopar uses lock nut on all this stuff so heating them is the only way to get them off. if you heat them and they cool off before you remove them your screwed because that just makes them that much harder to remove. i just cut them off too and just put new ones back on i feel much safer with new stuff.
