I went to Leon's Junk Yard in Culpepper, Virginia yesterday. It's an old junk yard that's been there 50+ years. 100 acres, all up and down hill. Kind of organized but C-Bodies scattered all over the place. I seen a couple of 74-77 formals, all in rough condition. A lot of fusie's and slab's. All the cars have been there for decades so the condition speaks for itself. There was so much dirt and leaves that fell on all the cars that the pile was from the hood to the top of the roofs. I did find a 74 Fury that had the wiper linkage I needed....hacked my way through the underbrush and thorn bushes, the roof was so rusted that it was covered with 1"-
2" holes (I never seen a roof rust out like that), pried open the smashed hood and didn't realize that I was disturbing a massive wasp nest that was inside the roof. So that ended the mission... Stan, the only car that had a decent chrome strip at the base of the windshield may of been that Fury.......I couldn't dig out the passenger side to check condition before the wasps ran me off. Ya, I'm a puss....

The last couple of pictures were on Skyline Drive in the Shenandoah National Park in Virginia that runs 105 miles on the top of the mountains and is also part of the Appalachian Trail. Hazy day and still snow on the ground. It's beautiful in the fall.

Bob, you have inspired me..... I now have to go..... Look at those polaras.... What are the prices like? And the owners?

Looks like a great place to wonder around and I'd be curious about prices too. Limited time to enter the yard but once you're in do you have to be out by a certain time?

Very nice ride to this place too. I took Highway 29 (Lee Highway I think) south and took Skyline Drive heading north back home. The owner's name is Leon......very friendly and is the son of the original Leon. Price seemed reasonable....I was only asking about parts on the Formal's.

This is a walk in only junk yard. And it's all up and down hill. Pack light!!! LOL! You have to be in between 8-9 am and out by 11:30. He doesn't let anyone in after 9 am. He locks you in the junk yard when he closes for lunch 11:30 am - 1 pm. Have to be out by 3 pm. He has rules and signs up all over the place that has the same message.................don't piss him off!!!! LOL!!!

Bob, A friend sent me a picture from there of what looked like a '69 Fury III in F8, did you happen to see it, I'm looking for a few bits and pieces still.

Unfortunately, I don't remember. I only took a close look at the formals. Everything you see in the pictures is what I saw in passing by. It was 91 degrees and I was dragging a 2 wheel cart with a tool box up and down some steep hills and the Mopar's are at the rear of the 100 acre lot. Please remember that most of the cars have been sitting in that yard for 30, 40, 50 years. No recent arrivals. No usable interior parts like seats, door panels, seals, carpet, headliners, etc. Most have been open to the elements for decades. A lot of them have several inches thick of moss living and expanding in them and some pretty big bee, hornet, and wasps nests everywhere.

Everything I need is exterior Bob. If you go again, I would appreciate if you could take a look for me please.

Where was it 91 degrees? You mean the whole country isn't stuck in an extended winter???

90+ in Mississippi this week. My face is a little sunburnt.

I just hate to see cars rotting into the ground like that.

It's been hot in to the mid-atlantic this week.

A lot of those cars have been sitting there for decades. Pretty hard to protect them once they are in the dirt.

LOL!

While I was in Leon's... I was listening for anyone playing banjo's and on the lookout for Gen. Stonewall Jackson to come marching by. Culpepper, Va had a lot of Civil War action throughout the area during the war. I could imagine Troops, Artillery, Calvary running over the whole area. I'm sure a metal detector would uncover Civil War artifacts since Leon's is the only activity that ever was in that area.
