Great advice and I absolutely do, every time. The Christmas Vacation reference was just a joke.

You can always have your old one rebuilt.

That's what I intend to do with mine... But after 35 years or so, it still seems to be doing OK.
I had a 2 ton Sears that gave up a few years ago. I wanted someone to rebuild it for me. I searched online, called shops, even talked to a few garage mechanics as to who services their hydraulics, no one wanted to touch it, most just replace with Chinese. Sold it for $50, bought a HF aluminum racing jack and just plan on replacing it in a few years.

I'm using about a 10yr old Craftsman myself. A buddy bought the harbor frieghts (against my advice) and he loves it ! 5/6 yrs now and it's still going strong.

Don't blame the Chinese.
They simply make whatever we ask them to...
Its the New World Order.
Shift the Middle Class to the Lower Class.
The lower class will buy the cheapest chit possible.
The cheapest chit possible is more expensive over the long run.
Robbing from the Future to satisfy The Present causes the decline of Society.
The decline of Society is inevitable.
Fuggit. I'm going to Harbor Freight...

See how it works?

Resistance is futile.

We could have stopped this crap in the 70's but America was still on a high from the Post WW II boom so everyone stood around with their thumbs up there azz and went out and bought another boat, an ATV, and a snow mobile on credit.
Oops. Need a floor jack but the three car payments are due. Oh, just buy a Chinese floor jack. It will do...

Had my HF jack for 11 yrs now. Still works great, other than the broken spring to keep the handle upright. I plan on replacing w HF again. I welded the handle into one piece as well, due to the cheap connection bolt.

I hate to say it, but as an owner of a couple harbor freight jacks, newer one is rapid pump, and a purchaser for somewhat brutally used commercial ones... I have been buying these for work for years and they have held up as well or better than some much more expensive ones...

At the cost for replacements, rebuilding no longer enters my equation and to be honest many rebuilds never worked out so well in my experience. I Fight to make sure hand tools are as snap-on as possible and buy what I know will be destroyed from cheap suppliers... engine hoists the same... cherry pickers die as fast if they cost $1500 or $150... new rams are easier to find for $150 models...they just cost too much if the rest of the thing has been hammered.

BTW I know a really nice widow who got to watch her husband die for not using jack stands... don't be a Darwinism poster child...

Never. After it goes full cycle, it will come back to the U. S. looking for cheap labor and then start all over again.

Or, just mebbe, we'll be the next third world country with plenne of cheep laborers.

The sad reality is that it isn't driven by logic or solid business practices, it's ultimately driven by greed. Big corporations started with moving manufacturing to areas of the country with lower wages, then to move them overseas for lower wages, then offshoring and outsourcing more then just manufacturing, then proceeded to lobby for more work visa's and the defining of illegal aliens as "undocumented aliens" to make it politically correct where offshoring workers was not feasible to keep getting cheaper labor so they can continue to make higher profits at the expense of the American middle class.

Regardless of the "poor mouthing" of large corporations, all are making more inflationary dollars today then in any time in history. In most large companies, the executive leadership team and board members have multi-million dollar salaries per year and multi-million dollar "golden parachutes". The latest trend is to eliminate any loyalty or patriotism to America, or the country they're operating in, by appointing foreign nationals to the executive leadership teams and board of directors of large corporations. Even medium sized companies have immigration attorneys on staff or on retainer to circumvent immigration laws.

This is not unique to America, large corporations of other developed countries are doing the same thing. The most egregious fact is that the government that is suppose to be for the people, by the people, and prevent this trend is bought and controlled by big business so there is no end in sight to this trend.

If you are skeptical of my opinion, simply goggle the ELT of any large organization and look at the nationality of the team. I try to buy as American as I can and I also try to buy small business when available. For our forigen members, I would suggest you do the same, buy Finland, German, etc. to support you're own workers.

I decided to split this rant into two parts because it was getting long and this is somewhat of a different topic.

There is a perception that is being propagated that American made = junk. IMHO this is pure mitigated BS perpetrated by the marketing teams of foreign made products. I’ll give you some examples.

Cars: The popular belief is that American cars are junk. Please give me leeway on what is American for a moment.

My 1996 Dodge Intrepid had the 3.3L with 160,000 miles and NEVER had a major repair, it ran great and still got such good gas mileage that it didn’t qualify for the Cash for Clunkers. It got better gas mileage then my 2006 Charger with the 3.5L HO and my 2010 Avenger R/T with the 3.5L HO.

My 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 STL Larimie 4x4 had the 5.9L gas with 200,000 miles and the only major repair was to rebuild the rear end at 130,000 miles. I sold them both in 2012 when I bought my new truck. The intrepid was assembled in Brampton, ON and the truck was assembled in Warren, MI.

The important thing to remember is both were designed in Michigan. One such design innovation was that the first generation Intrepid was the first car in the WORLD to have a floor shift with a dash mounted shift indicator also. It had never been done by anyone prior to 1993. The designers were trying to come up with a reliable mechanical solution, when it dawned on them that the electronic control module already had the signal and it was just a matter of lighting an led in the dash dependent on what the ECM was registering.

When Daimler Benz was in the process of taking over Chrysler, they were having multiple meetings to discuss how to cut costs. From the book “Taken For A Ride”, by Bill Vlasic and Bradley A. Stertz, I’ll quote an exchange between Dennis Pawley, Chrysler Engineering Chief and Andreas Renschler, the executive who ran the M-Class project at Daimler Benz

Pawley suggested to build the M-Class on the Jeep Grand Cherokee line in Graz, Austria. Renschler said, “The brand must be protected at all costs”, implying that buy building it on a Jeep line, it would devalue the vehicle, which is ironic because that’s exactly what Daimler Chrysler later did to Chrysler though marketing. Pawley’s reply was, “…I want to protect the Jeep brand. If you’re worried about quality, the Grand Cherokee has finished way, way ahead of your sport-utility. So let’s get that one behind us. I’m telling you that the Grand Cherokee has a better quality reputation. Let’s get off that **** of you want to protect your brand. I’ll take the risk.” The Grand Cherokee did score higher in independent quality reviews then the M-Class.

The biggest problem with American cars is the publications such as Car and Driver, Motor Trend, etc. are Eurocentric in their opinions. That continues today.

Some other American made products that are better than or at least as good as any in the world are, Bullhide Belts, Quality USA Handcrafted Belts and Wallets - Bullhide Belts, Dress Leather Belts, Wallets, Gun Belts, Exotics, Double Prong Belts, Money Belts, Bully Tools, Home Page, Carhart Duck Detroit Blanket Lined Jackets, Duck Detroit Jacket/Blanket-Lined

These jackets have lasted me on average 15 years, I just purchased my third one. Finally Wolverine Boots. Work Boots For Men & Women - Shop Work Shoes | Wolverine Until recently every aspect of these boots were American made. They even had their own tannery. They’ve recently offshored the tannery but everything else is still American made. I have a pair of Wolverines that I’ve had for almost 30 years and I still ware them almost daily.

I'm waiting for the day when all the new pu trucks weigh half as much as my Peterbilt another 1500 to 2000 lbs. Of touch screen WiFi hotspot and they will be there just to haul around a couple of fat asses and their damn kids.

They've definately increased the weight with all the tech crap, which I avoid. Mine is a reg cab, just my wife and I. Most of the weight increase is the frame. My 2500 has a full box frame, unlike the C-Channel that they used to use. There seems to be a competition with American trucks to see who can get the most tow/haul capacity. I remember when a 150 = half ton, 250 = three quarter and 350 = one ton. My 2500 is rated to haul 2100#'s, and tow 12,950#'s. The new heavy duties are quite capable compared to what they were in the past.

The box frame will be rotted in 10 years. The box is only there to make the front and rear crumple instead of in the middle. Every big truck on the road has only C channel frame and can work a lot harder than a pu. The box is not there for hauling/towing its there for when bimbo Cindy and her 299/ mo lease is texting on her 199/mo phone and hits you head on you may not die. Sorry got off track the harbor freight jacks seem okay but hard to let down easy.

Gotta go to Kroger's now...
