Loving life! 2 years since my 67 Imperial GM full-size Disc Brake upgrade!

Hello, sorry for long delay , I'm not down in Arizona since April back in Canada for summer and my Lake Cabin in northern Saskatchewan and did not have good internet , offline so to speak, this week they put up a new cell tower and presto connected again. I have owned many GM vehicles and owned a professional tuning race car shop since the early 1990's, now retired. I have put these GM brakes on other cars and trucks, even on my 1965 Valiant Barracuda back in the day so I new that the adaptor to go to this brake is a flat plane not 3 dimensional as most other setups. I got the drawing and put it all together , thinking to just sell the adaptor plates and let everyone else make up their own spacers and bolts and brake lines. Easy after that or I could supply the plates and the spacers and the rest is just off the shelf parts at any parts store. Anyone who wants to get the parts to fix their Imperial can PM me and we can work out what the cost would be for the parts.

Thanks. Beautiful Imperial.

Yes, the GM D52 caliper is a fabulous thing, especially its flat-plate mounting.

Did you find it an easy combination to make?
In my dabbling, I'm finding that the rotor hat-heights and rotor thickness really affect how thick the adapter plate is, or if it will even fit.

But I'm trying to fit an ~11" rotor in a 14" wheel, so that's less forgiving.
The 11" mid-70s A-B-E rotor fits the C-body drum spindle perfectly, but does not allow the adapter plate to fit, it puts the bolts into the ID of hte rotor area.
IIRC the plate was very close to rubbing the rotor, too.

Hello guys, sorry about my mail box, I have limited internet at my Cabin in Saskatchewan. I will figure out the cost of the parts for 67 - 73 imperials. How many of you guys want the parts so I can get cost from my machine shop. Bye for now. Reg

I'm in. Thanks for doing this.

Just a reminder that I am in from our chat in the spring.

Hello guys, I'm checking on the cost to get the basic kits ready but I have texts on here and personal and I really don't know how many cars we need to get kits for , maybe it would be best if you PM me and we put this on iMessage or email personal rather than using this forum thread, As this app only works reliably when I'm in front of my laptop, I end up not getting messages till hours or even days later when on my cell phone. Please PM me for my iPhone number in Arizona . Thanks in advance. Reg

I have now calculated the cost to make up GM Full-size rotor and caliper conversion kits including billet adapter brackets, grade 8 hardware, bearings and spacers. To allow you to use off the shelf at any parts store Full Size GM Ambulance or Police Disc Brake System.

This will allow you to take off your terrible shitty four piston Budd Disc Brakes on all 1967 - 1973 Imperials and send them off to the metal recycling pile while at the same time having a nice big shot of Single Malt Scotch as well a Cigar. Good riddens Budd brakes!!!

So far I have three members ordering so if you are wanting to fix your Imperial just PM me in the next few days if you're interested to order a kit, this might be the only time I will do this, I'm an old fart after all.

Hello guys, hope everyone is doing well. I received just one deposit so far, are any here wanting to get the GM Brakes, I need at least 3 takers to get this stuff manufactured. I would like to do the order this week if possible as would be good to get it all done and sent out to before Christmas . Let me know by PM mail and I will send you my cell number.
Cheers for now.

I don’t think anything after 68 has Budd calipers. My 71 LeBaron has single piston calipers.

Have you thought about doing a bracket to mount that GM caliper to a Cbody drum spindle and use the small bearing 11.75 Mopar rotor?

The 3" piston would allow you to keep the drum booster which is getting to be the hardest part to source when converting a slab to discs.

Hello there no I don’t have a drum car anymore . I’m not in the business to do this. I just did this because I have my Imperial. I’m not sure about the bud calipers. I don’t know cause I’ve never had a newer Imperial than my 67.

I could look around while I’m down in Arizona and find a spindle or if somebody has a spindle I could do a drawing and cut the brackets

Cool now we know , what did they do in 1970 to 1973? Maybe I could have just bolted on the 1970 brakes , can’t believe I did not try that, I thought I tried everything possible!

69 was the last year for Budds ...they went to a different, I think Corporate system in 70-73 for the Imperial. It's been decades since I had my 73, so my recollection is fuzzy.
