I believe being rich to the point where you do not care about your fellow Americans is not what this country was all about in the past. The rich these days do the hard work on Wall Street getting rich by toppling our economic system as they have done in this most recent depression - illegally. One thing I do criticize the President for is not pursuing criminal charges against these Wall Street moguls and sending them to jail. Stated income loans - really??!!
And Romney is well known for shielding his income in other countries and avoiding paying taxes here in the U.S., plus he and his cronies have secured numerous exemptions from paying income tax through such tricks as earned income credits on their investments, etc. Not to mention his companies such as Bain Capital buy companies, take the spoils as they send them into bankruptcy or send the jobs overseas to make even more money. They obviously care about U.S. citizens and jobs, right? Its all about making more money. Romney was even caught saying to his select elite backers, he doesn't car about the other 47%, which probably more than anything else lost him the election. And he wanted Chrysler and GM to go bankrupt, a couple of the remaining companies that are headquartered here still and helping our economy greatly now that they have been restructured.
It is the Republicans in the House that are more than willing to spend ridiculous amounts on military spending to serve the military industrial complex of successful military contractors, stoke the desire to conduct wars in the Middle East (as if the wars Bush got us into there didn't serve enough of a lesson) to keep this ridiculous spending going, while saying we need to balance the budget by reducing the pensions of the military personnel who served this country well and with dignity and sacrifice in the past as a means to help offset these expenditures? It is the House Republicans who want to cut social security for those who have paid into it for numerous decades while wanting to continue to subsidize big oil (as if they don't already make enough money off of us?) and then calling Social Security an entitlement! And it is the House Republicans that want to stop any efforts to regulate Wall Street more to prevent another collapse that we are still trying to pull ourselves out of.
And how is it "American" to see corporations making more profits than ever, buying up nice new shiny fleets of trucks and then paying poverty wages to their drivers because "they can", thereby sending their previously skilled drivers into early retirement and hiring only the lowest on the totem pole? I sincerely hope their insurance bills skyrocket on them to teach them a lesson. What about the moral decency to take care of fellow employees that helped make these companies profitable who possessed valuable skills over the years that helped them succeed. Just dump them because you can? That isn't the America I grew up in - sorry!
I used to be a Republican until the moneyed Tea Party took over and all the greed and immorality they represent. We all need to watch the ball much closer than we have, as we are being had by a sophisticated network of talk shows designed to take our eyes off the ball while generating hate in their yell radio shows. Those who take their freedoms for granted will lose them.
