Friday night, our very close friends (a married couple) came over to the house. They just moved down here from Mass. It's a complicated situation but to simplify things, her health insurance is through Mass. Welfare.
She's bitterly complaining that she can't get healthcare here she wants as conveniently and luxuriously as she did in Mass. so she wants to move back.
I kept my trap shut but my whole evening was ruined by my thinking WhyTF should she get the same healthcare I broke my balls all my life for? I earned it. That's is WHY I broke my balls. To have it. She's from the Obama school where it's her right and I have to pay for hers too through redistribution?? She never worked a day in her life.
How did America get to this point????? The Greatest Generation produce a Baby Boom Generation that SUCK at raising their own kids....
Since the originally referenced quote in Stan's response came from me, I want to just clarify that I agree with all Stan said and still maintain my quote. My point was that the richest few percent are taking ALL the spoils today, and the middle class and the poor are BOTH being decimated in the context of greed. If Stan went back to his old company today, would he even be able to get a full time job, or would he only be able to be get a non-full time "contract" job? And what would be the inflation adjusted salary they would be offering - anything close to what he got? And if he were able to even get a full time job, would there even be a retirement program or healthcare benefits (Obamacare aside for now) anymore - or if there were any such benefits, how would they compare to what he was able to earn? It is hard enough to even earn enough money today for the average
hard working American middle class family to afford to send their kids to college. The world is rapidly becoming more technologically sophisticated, and college graduates are proliferating in Asia, Europe, and elsewhere, and those graduates are getting the even fewer good jobs over here, not the natives. And I watch the new Fiat-Chrysler, now as of last week, fully owned by Fiat, trying to decide where to base their headquarters. Even though their industrial might is centered in the U.S., they are apparently seeking to base their headquarters in Britain, where corporate taxes are much lower than in the U.S (why does our government even allow this nonsense?). So despite the fact that Fiat-Chrysler uses the U.S. infrastructure, they will avoid having to pay to maintain it, as one example. I used to work for Chrysler Central Engineering, and finding a full time job there now, even if you can afford to go to college, is unlikely since they will only hire "contract" employees and if they make the grade over an extended time period, then they might consider hiring them. I didn't have such a hurdle to get over when I was hired in out of college (contract employees aren't paid full time salaries or benefits). And the benefits today for even the full time employees are but a shadow of those in the past (and by the way, the fall of those companies was the result of bad management that was prideful and arrogant (blind), not the benefits they paid - I got to watch it all unfold).
Yes, I know Fox News characterizes "wealth distribution" as applying to the hard working middle class giving all their hard earned income to the lazy poor, but the wealth distribution inequity that I was referring to was the few percent at the top, who are strangling BOTH the middle class and the poor, because they can, and the government House and Senate are in their pockets and vice versa. Until the middle class is able to regain the integrity and value they used to have in past generations (i.e. where most of us on this site come from), we will continue to spiral downward. There was a post a while back from one on this Board from Germany, who said most of the working class there get 6 weeks paid vacation, they have good wages and jobs, and they have a good universal health care system. So how come they can be thriving and we can not? Please explain that to me? Where have we gone wrong if it isn't the greed at top being only concerned about maximizing profits, decimating labor unions (which I acknowledge have in the past been too powerful and helped wreck the Big Three automakers here in the U.S. - I am talking about needed balance), outsourcing our jobs, paying crap wages despite healthy profits, little benefits of worth, etc? We need to analyze the real situation now, not assume everything is pretty much like it was in our generation, and do the "analysis" without the non-help of yell radio. Yeah, I agree there are too many freeloaders today and a young generation sucked into their Iphones full time, tuned out of reality, rude and lazy and couldn't give a crap. But that is a result of poor parenting to some degree and the fact that both parents are working, struggling to even put food on the table while the kids go unmanaged. It will just get worse if we just complain how bad things are today without analyzing what is wrong and setting about to fix it. You give Obama too much credit for the mess we are in as I see it. Rather, the bulk of the mess is attributable to the increasingly wealthy House and Senate representatives who rely on their campaigns to be financed by the wealthy through front organizations and Supreme Court decisions that allow unbridled campaign contributions from the wealthy now. Then they owned by those who pay them, the wealthy top few percent. Government is dysfunctional now as far as the middle class and poor are concerned as a result since we are of little interest to them.
