I know you guys like old things, so I thought you might appreciate some photos of the "period correct" restoration I've been doing to my 1956 house. You'll find a few C body easter eggs. Here's the front door project.

Everything about my old door was good... steel, magnetic weather stripping, smooth operation. Except I thought it was blah. Basically an off-the-shelf Home Depot door. They'll sell you a nice one that matches the aesthetic of a 1950s house, but it's better than $1,000. Just for the door. This solution cost me a little bit of time on Marketplace, 20 bucks, two sheets of thin plywood and a little quality time with my angle grinder.

Basically I found an old beat to hell door in a scary barn, sawed it down to just the window portion, cut away the same spot on my old door and then refaced it with the plywood. Orange stain on the outside, whitewashed the back side and finished it off with satin gold hardware. The orange side is slightly undercut so the magnetic seal still grabs.

My sister's house, one they built in 1958, had all those styling cues. Even had the original Westinghouse electric oven in the wall.

All was in fantastic shape too. The last time I was in there was just before she passed, almost 10 years ago and it looked like it did back in the 60's.

Nice job! That definitely adds a lot of character. There was this company from Austin Texas that made MCM kits and doors, looks like they're no longer in business. The home I grew up in had the knob in the center of the door with a large star escutcheon around it.

Thank you. There was actually someone selling those door lights on my area Marketplace, would have been a little over a hundred bucks to buy them, but I was still going to have to sheet the door or buy a whole new flat steel door. This way I spent 20 bucks and got all the other carpentry done for me plus the moldings.
