Meet Ming, my 1973 New Yorker Brougham

no dog in the fight, so to speak on Ming.

shes fine as she was "born". keeping the brochure look she has too

I still would put road wheels on any fusie to sport everyday, maintaining the original look when i wanted. Ming would look cherry with road wheels too.

Anyway, i'm like the hot sauce brand tag line with road wheels and fusies/formals: :poke:

are road wheels in the future ?
I hope not. It's nice to see a fuselage car without them.

Kudos, I agree Scott. While I love the idea of roadwheels with some whitewalls, Ming here just has that “it has to have the original wheelcovers” look.
I have a spare set of road wheels that I bought from @73 New Yorker at the 2022 CATL. I did so with Ming in mind, along the lines of what @amazinblue82 suggested.

This said, soon after I acquired Ming, I had also bought a set of four NOS wheel covers for her. They are still in their original boxes, but they may well go on the car at Carlisle.

Until then, enjoy the "film noir" photo below showing Ming on the left, next to Buttercup, my 1972 NYB (which sports road wheels and the correct fuselage center caps).

Ming is moving East today, starting with a trip to Carlisle. Thanks to @71Polara383 for all the work in the past four years — can’t wait to drive her long distance.

She looks trophy ready Ayilar, I wish I could see her this year. Wyatt did a great job on her, best of luck and safe travels. I would love to see some pictures of her at the show.

Thank you. I never enter the trophy race — I only want to drive the cars. Carlisle is to meet other members only for me (well, and see their cars…).

Ming had a great time at Carlisle 2024, 800 miles away from the place she has called home in Illinois for the past 4 years. Here are a few photos from the Carlisle trip. The first and last one pictures show her parked at the AirBnB where @Boydsdodge and I stayed for Carlisle. The first photo was taken last Thursday evening, right after we had arrived (nice front bumper!); the last photo shows her this Sunday morning, waiting with Buttercup for @Boydsdodge and me to leave the house and drive my two fuselage New Yorkers to their respective summer destinations.

Now that Ming has hit the road and successfully been to her first Carlisle. Here's what was done over the last few months.

We left off with some burned up headlight switch wiring. We sourced a cheap replacement from @Bill fury from a 73 he was parting out.

Unfortunately it was cut a little short and the wires were brittle. It made trying to use the solder seal connectors very tricky in the limited space I was working with under the dash. I gave it my best, got it plugged in and of course a few connections weren't secure. I pulled it back out and started over. Fortunately my 82 Cordoba parts car has a similar pull style switch and the wiring was still soft and pliable. I was able to cut more than enough extra wire to work with and the 2nd attempt I was much happier with and we have dash lights again!

With that out of the way I got the car on the lift to handle another item I knew we'd need to handle before a trip. The front suspension and brakes are two areas we didn't dive deep into. I noticed we had some excessive wear on the idler so it was replaced.

Now the final prep before handing her over to @ayilar and @Boydsdodge I pulled the champions used for break in out in favor of some autolites

After that, I cleaned the dust shield off for the converter and reinstalled it while the car was in the air for the last time.

With all the mechanical work done, I focused on getting the car cleaned up and did some light detailing.

Cleaned the dash up and touched up the silver outlines that were faded.

I then went over the car with my Torx orbital polisher to revitalize the shine to the best of my ability. Cleaned the tires and white walls. Cleaned the top and re wiped down the dash. Spent Monday and Tuesday after work getting her ready.

I do believe that concludes my portion of Mings story. I brought her a long long way and from my experience she's a great car.

Thanks for following.

You sure brought out the bling in Ming.
Thank you. I'm sure I could have went more in depth with a multi step paint correction for a deeper shine, but given it has been repainted once, and has a few areas chipping. I just gave it a good once over to increase the shine before the big show.

Refund sent on what you gave me. Thats why I was giving it to you.

Thank you very much @71Polara383 for all your hard effort getting Ming up and ready for the big drive and show. @ayilar and I had a great time getting Ming and Buttercup to Carlisle. 15.6 mpg from Carlisle to next fill up on the way home, I am going to check the trip millage once I get the missing gallons from @ayilar.
Ming had a great run down no issues to stop the journey, just enough of a shakedown run to create a list of needs that I will get done while in my care. Brake warning light came on and stayed after hard slowdown, I stayed in the slow lane after that with an inconsistent peddle. The coolant overflows the recovery tank but will not return to rad, will look into soldering a crack in the rad filler neck. Shocks and bushing in front end. Drivers door lock key will not enter tumbler. New brake hard lines. (anyone making C body hard lines?)
Ming's story will continue. stay tuned for updates.
It was fantastic weekend meeting you guys at the show.

Classic Tube in NY will make new hard lines in SS, pre-bent, including adding the rock guard where needed. At least they do for a '71.... calling them to ask works best because their catalog is a bit clunky.
