Moose, Ticks, and the Climate

An interesting article I just read and it had one word that always catches my attention because I so loath the damn little creatures.

Climate Change Enters Its Blood-Sucking Phase

Moose/Deer ticks are like cockroaches, they can survive pretty much anything and live on anything warm blooded. As long the the host animal is still alive, the ticks will survive no matter what the weather is doing.

I thought it it was a band...."Moose Tick and the Climate"

Hate the bug-gers!!!! I used to like walking in the woods......

I have Lyme disease because of ticks. CDC does not acknowledge existence of long term Lyme. Insurance companies don't have to help. Govt pretends to care and forms committees to investigate the issue. Meantime, we pay out of pocket for herbal meds to stay functional. Ticks suck in more ways than one.

wow. sorry to hear that. I am constantly reminded of lyme disease as I am surrounded by bush and deer and a shitload of tics. one cant be too careful. good luck to you.

Sorry you have to deal with that. Gov cares for what they want to and heck with the rest. I have been checked on several occasions, but got lucky. Down here in MS those little bastards are everywhere. Our dogs are "tick plucked" nightly from April into November. No good way to control them.

Do you have flea/tick collars on them? If so, do they help any?

I use a product called Frontline. it turned out to better than the flea/tick collars. You rub it between their shoulder blades. I also treat my yard with Spectra. it does great for the yard, but I can't treat all the woods around my house.

I got bit by two deer ticks in PA back in '91-92, no problems, then we find out late last year, that there is a Lyme disease variant that takes years to notice any symptoms. Cool, that's something to at if things go funky.

About how many years are they saying? You've got my attention.

They didn't specify, just that there are two types. I told them it had been twenty-five years, and they said I still may see it show up. I didn't research it any further.

I put these out last year, first year we haven't found any ticks on the cats or us. With 5 acres and plenty of trees/underbrush there's always been plenty of ticks. Not cheap, but appear to work.

Interesting I'm going to look into theses. We inspect everyone anytime they are outside for very long or in the woods.

For goodness sake, check your clothes and body! I got Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever ten years ago. It morphed into rheumatoid arthritis and I take $4k worth of medication every month so I can keep working. If you have a fever in Summer, go to an urgent care and get checked. I let mine go for three weeks and wished I hadn't.

$4000, that's huge, Joe. I don't have to spend that much to keep working, but it's still massive $ hit every month. My sympathies.
I also use 24 of these every April. They kill ticks in larval and nymph stages.

Thanks for the link!

The drug company actually sends me a Master Card every year with $10k on it. They are not giving away money. I'm sure .gov or someone kicks it back to them. I also have insurance.

I have to keep working. When I can't work anymore, I will be ready to move on to whatever there is after this life.

My guess is you're taking actemra. I'm on it too. Luckily I'm taking it for something other than RA. I will be on it for 2 years only. Each syringe is $1000. 4 times a month. Been on it for 45 weeks now so in these two containers there is $45,000 worth of drugs. More than we just paid for our new Durango. Luckily I get it free from the manufacturer.
