MOTOR WONT TURN OVER

@DDR2467 - I was in nearly at the same place you are now 3 years ago. I spent a lot of time on this site before starting my first post. Like you, I was a DIY ‘maintenance mechanic’. Oil, fluids, spark plugs. I never had the confidence to take on any real mechanical things. Even sent my car off to have the engine rebuilt by a mechanic. But that was three years ago. Now I have more confidence to take things on I would have never thought possible just a couple of years ago. But if there is one thing I have learned over that time, these beautiful cars of our will ALWAYS have something go wrong on them. They are 50+ years old. Patience is key....

In my time on this site, I have also learned a lot about different members personalities, in some cases I have come to considered some of these folks friends and we have never met, talked in person, or know each other’s real names. There are others on here that are sarcastic, borderline rude, but when you read their other posts, you realize it is just their form of humor. And there are a few on here that are just..... well, you know. But even the folks who are @$!??& are still really knowledgeable. My advice: take the wisdom they are imparting, and disregard the rest. That advice is just plain old good practice for life in general.

At the end of the day, nearly everyone on this site LOVES these cars. You will find the good always outweighs the bad. And if you find it’s getting to serious, follow the Funny Picture Thread on this site - HILARIOUS stuff there.

I really don’t have a lot of advice on your starter/cranking issue. My position is make the engine reliable with less concern about OEM. But I am one of the folks that has electronic fuel injection and electronic ignition in my ‘68 300. Oh.... I couldn’t help but notice you have a similar MSD electronic ignition box in your engine bay too. Again, I am not a real mechanic, but pretty sure that is not OEM.

have a great weekend!
Thanks for the input about the personalities... I totally understand but I dont get why if people are on here to help that they feel it "constructive" to bash everyone they can...

As far as the OEM stuff... I'm not trying to go back to 1969 with this thing but if there are some parts that I can get that ARE OEM then id rather go with them.

Lots of posts since my new post. First off thank you to EVERYONE now for reaching out and trying to help. Lets see if I can explain things a bit better now that I have an idea what I think I'm doing. The mechanic I mentioned had initially told me what everyone here has also spoken to.

- dont even think about starting it (WHICH I NEVER SAID I INTENDED ON DOING AT THIS POINT!)

- pull the plugs and fill the cylinders with Justice Brothers 80 (my call) and some MMO then after some time, try turning the pully with a breaker bar. After researching some posts HERE I figured I would be better off slapping a socket on the crankshaft nut. So after only 2 days of soaking and after removing the fan and radiator shroud I jumped down into my pit and with a small amount of force I was able to spin the engine at will. This led me to believe that the engine wasn't sitting stagnant for that long. Good right?

- he then told me to put the key in the ignition and turn it over frequently while adding more MMO and probably some brake fluid to break up some of the finer continents. After a few days I was to drain the crap that was in it, replace the filter, add some inexpensive oil and keep on turning it over. Only after that point would he then come back to my garage, disconnect the fuel lines and feed the carb with an alternative fuel source and see what we get when we fire it up.

However this weekend I ran into an issue... when turning the ignition I only heard the pin engage but nothing else... no spinning, no nothing. So, I troubleshot the issue of the starter engaging but not spinning MYSELF and low and behold, removed, purchased, and reinstalled the new starter along with some new wiring to finally get to hear my engine turn over via the ignition. got to say I'm pretty damn happy with myself. Tuesday is the day I move forward with trying to start it!
That's great news!

One other thing, you did remove that fuel line from the carb, right? No sense in pumping gas into the manifold and making things worse.

On this pic (stolen of the web) you'll see the fuel line going to the rear of the carb and the PCV line going to the front of the carb.

Yup... all set with that TY! Like I said... I have a good mechanic in my town... hell, he has came over and looked at the car, turned some wrenches, knocked on some metal and dint charge me a dime even though I wanted to pay him for his time. He is passionate about these cars st like you all are so I guess I am in good hands.

I appreciate everyones help... crossing my fingers that my wife and daughter and I get to take this thing out for ice cream at least once before the snow falls!

you can get a starter almost anywhere keep the Original and send it out to be rebuilt but I believe from reading that your starter is bad or at least weak
