MrMopar's 1969 California Highway Patrol restoration

I learn something new every day...

I could have pulled out the impact gun but from years of working without owning one I tend to look for other options.
The bar wouldn't reach the floor and I couldn't hook it on the frame so I needed a way to hold the socket to keep the bar from spinning.

I actually know why there's no trunk light... it was so you wouldn't get lit up pulling supplies out of the trunk before a raid. And I'm guessing you're not gonna get away with driving around with a shotgun mounted up front lol... especially in Cali. But awesome thread! I've always wanted a cop car... I wonder what they used up here....

Furies! I answered my own question... heres a couple pics plus a coronet

My othe 69 Polara has no trunk light but there is a place for the switch. This car doesn't even have a place for the switch.

Having the shotgun in place isn't an issue. My friend keeps his in place and has never had a problem with it even the one time we got stopped for some other issue.

In California shotguns can be carried in the passenger compartment...

Traveling with Firearms in California

SHOTGUNS AND RIFLES

Nonconcealable firearms (rifles and shotguns) are not generally covered within the provisions of California Penal Code section 25400 and therefore are not required to be transported in a locked container. However, as with any firearm, nonconcealable firearms must be unloaded while they are being transported. A rifle or shotgun that is defined as an assault weapon pursuant to Penal Code sections 30510, 30515, or 30520 must be transported in accordance with Penal Code sections 16850, 25610, and 30945, subdivision (g).

Before the engine could go in I needed mounts, needless to say I needed to order them. Upon test fitting them I noticed the locating nub didn’t line up with the hole in the bracket, I checked with a friend and he had the same problem with his 70 Cuda. The decision was to just grind it off, now the pad seats properly.

After playing musical hardware and referring back to some before pictures I was able to get everything back as it was (less grime). A torqued and ready to go.

Is that a cable you fabricated?? Or one that's made for that purpose??

2014-09-17_005.jpg

That is a factory piece. The upper bushing/spacer is stepped and goes into the ring. There is a bushing in the lower ring that is there to keep the bolt from clamping down on the ring. The cable is floating on both ends.

Now if we could only step back in time with all the Highway patrol knowledge that Alan has bestowed upon us all our c bodies would be built to police specs...........

I was recently talking with another owner of a 69 CHP Polara about this bracket and he said his doesn't have it.
The bracket is on the rear of the left head to hold the battery cable. It was originaly painted with the engine and I have chose not to, I still need to paint the bolt, this was only put on for the picture. Is this a standard bracket on C-Body 440's?

That bracket does not look like it belongs there.

How is that?

It fits like a glove. The bent in tab is place to fit in to a second hole on the head to hold the orientation. The holes are punched and the plastic clip is what is often found on cables and haresses to hold them in place.

It isn't a CHP item and I doubt Farmer John added it.

My '69 440 doesn't have this bracket either.

The holes in the head are there, but no bracket.

None on mine either, but it is a 350 hp motor out of a 69 300. Is it mentioned in the parts book or FSM?
