My 68 Crown Coupe. The Saga...

Like it a lot, too. Have that white powder analyzed, maybe your in for a big profit. LOL.

Man the score just keeps getting better! Not even a crack in the steering wheel!

It's impossible to name a favorite part of this car but that steering wheel and brown/gold leather and cloth both are simply amazing. I don't think I've ever seen a prettier or cooler steering wheel.

Nearly monotone interiors/exteriors are my favorite with most cars of the era. They're already such bold design statements they don't need any more tinsel or contrasting IMHO.

Better get one of those club deals like Bob has or Matt might try to steal that wheel.
He's safe, its definitely not the right color for mine however I could send it to the steering wheel guy and he could use it to make the mold for when I'm ready to have a new silver one made. I'd give it back to him when done with it...

Wow great looking interior, it just keeps getting better. You have to be pumped about your find. It is what we all dream about.

Chapter 3:

ok, honeymoon is over, so it's time to get this badboy running. First thing we noticed was that the carb was in serious need of a rebuild, and the gas lines had gone bad. After tinkering with it, we pulled the valve coveres and realized the reason the car had never started for the previous owner. After years of sitting, the valve springs had frozen up. When the dude attempted to fire it up, the bottom end turned, but not so much on the valve train, so it bent up a good share of the connecting rods. Off the heads came for a recondition.

Now... hopefully more than a few of you guys can relate to the downward spiral that happens next.. it's what turns a 'cut and polish' into a full blown paint job, and in this case; pulling the heads into "well i might as well pull the motor, to freshen it up as well" Why? i'm not sure at this point, but it happened. lol

The black out paint on the radiator support looks like it just came on yesterday, or did you refresh this already. Amazing overall condition.

I still think you have a great find I hope the rebuild goes well for you. It stinks that the PO tried to start the engine and f----ed everything up. I would bet if he would have soaked it before hand a lot or all of the damage would have been avoided.

Yeah, thats what i think happened as well. That's ok though, all things considered. I was honestly more worried about rot than mechanical issues. If it's got nuts and bolts, I can tackle it. Bodywork scares me though, especailly considering that these cars are so long, that you need to have a great surface for the paint to not make people seasick when they look down the side of it. :)

Ok, back to it:

The story takes a hiatus, since amidst the "2 week" project of pulling and freshening the motor, I bought a house. 2 years, 2 bathrooms, 1200 sq ft of hardwood, a kitchen worth of tile, and about 20 gallons of paint later, i'm ready to get back into it. I pulled it into the garage (scary that it hardly fits) and started the process of prepping it for bodywork, and reassembling the motor.

Looking good, what's your goal for getting it back on the road? Total repaint? Are you a Detroiter?

Thanks guys, The end game is full repaint, and hopefully assembly by the fall. I have a couple other mopar projects in various stages of completion (or dissarray depending on who you ask) so I'm forced to sprread the budget pretty thin at times. I'm origanlly from the east coast but i moved out to metro Detroit in 04.

Great to see young guys with C-Body passion!!!

:sSig_thanks: I enjoy em, always have...which makes me crazy to most guys my age... hell even guys that are into tuners think my "tuner" car is nutty; ('86 Dodge Omni Turbo GLH) but i'm a equal opportunity lover of oddities. I love hot rods, customs, turbo's, bicyles, most Mopars from the mid 30's -mid 80's etc. Thank god my wife deals with my obsession. lol
