Hi Folks,
This is what I dream of?
1966 Polara big-block 2 door with a rust free body, but not a show queen.
Enough grunt to run the quarter mile in 12 seconds without changing gear (autobox in drive)
Be able to drive her/him everyday and still get 17mpg...

Am I mad or just a dreamer lol.

Stay safe everyone.

Ok I cheated, they is English gallons...:wtf:

Cheap, Fast, Good. You may Pick 2

Funny stuff, maybe 12’s in the 1/8th mile.

To make power it takes energy. So more power more fuel consumption.

Best way to improve drag times, more rear end gear.
Best way to increase gas mileage, less rear end gears.

The Imperial gallon is near 5 US Quarts..........

12 second quarter, and 17 mpgs on a 3 speed 727 ?
I have a big block, 440, and I got 13.6 mph, almost 17 in imperial (stout?) gallons, but nowhere near 12 seconds. 27" tall tire, 3.55 gear. I was happy to get the 13.6mpg and an app told me I got a best of mid the high 14's. Haven't tried any high speed acceleration trials lately, I have two new apps to try out this year.

God luck getting that car you mentioned, I obviously love the '66 Dodge C bodies, just need a wagon... And a financial backer!

Hi Guys,
Many thanx for the conversion tables.
We used to say 14mpg UK was brill for a 440ci car that weren't too heavy.
My friends 66 Polara 512ci 727 in drive with 3.23's will run a 12 yes a 12!!!
Thats not the best bit, it has great vacuum for brakes and does 17mpg UK on a steady run at 60mph...:bs_flag:not at all.

As God is my witness, I was there when it all happened.:steering:

That 51² should idle that car along at 60 no problem, probably right at the bottom of the torque curve.

Hi Folks,
Got the C-Bod guy to send me over some pics.

512 going in to 66.jpg

£5000 for the engine.

£8000 for the car and a 383 lopo.

£12,000 for both.

Good deal???:drama:

All true enough but don’t forget that a vital link to more power is increasing the efficiency of the engine. Need to keep the heat in the cylinders. Back then the engines were not terribly efficient, there was a suggestion that they had an efficiency rating as low as 25% (can’t verify that). New engines and upgraded engines are much better. To verify just look at the discharging exhaust temp from old cars to new. All that heat out of the exhaust is lost power.

I take it your choices for American car's are slim over there? Is the engine in the car? By the sounds of the cars performance, which you have witnessed, it sounds like a good deal. If all is in good order.

That's about $15k USD for those that care.

I guess there are a couple questions.

First is "do you want the car"

Second is "see first question"

It's probably worth more because it's in the UK already, so comparing it to its value here might be like comparing apples and oranges. Without seeing the rest of the car, it's hard to put a value on it anyway. But if it's all squared away and ready to go have fun with, then it really comes down to if you want the car or not.
