So I got into A-bodies because they were cheaper than the Charger R/T I came from. So I have been slowly building a 1972 Plymouth Valiant. It started out as a rusty pile from Connecticut. It is an Automatic Transmission Package car, and was pedestrian with 9” manual drums, 6.95-14 tires with a 7 1/4” 2.76 open axle. I was wanting to make it a daily driver. Upgrades have been slow and progress has stall a couple of time. Now it is has a 1987 slant six that is supposed to weigh 30 lbs less than a 1972 slant six, the head is milled, it has a Comp 220/220 cam, power steering, power disc brakes, air conditioning, rear window defogger, rear speakers.

I have added Holley Retrobrights, a TTI 2.5” exhaust, full 340 Duster 340 torsion bars, Mopar Performance XHD leaf springs with KYB shocks, front sway bar, Kelsey Hayes calipers, 10”x1.75” rear drums, and a 3.23 Sure-Grip in an 8 3/4”’axle with a 489 housing. It’s all sitting on E70-14 tires with trailer towing wheels.

I still want to add a 390cfm Holley an an Aussie Speed intake, it needs work to get the vinyl top and glass redone and a set of tires, plus minor odds and ends.

I will probably have $10,000 into a $4,000 car. Oh, well.

I've owned a bunch of A-bodies over the years. Almost all Darts and for some odd reason, I never had a Valiant. I've always liked them. I wish I had pictures, but that was in the days of film, so that didn't happen.

My present A body checked a box on my bucket list. 1965 Barracuda Formula S. I wanted a Barracuda since I saw one in a car dealership in 1964. Actually, I wanted one with a slant six, but I never found one worth dragging home. This one belonged to a friend and when it came up for sale, I grabbed it.

The 273 is getting tired so I've been gathering bits for a rebuild. Maybe this winter...

Love my 68 Valiant. 383 big block swapped with working factory Air.
