New dog = daughter bit....:(

Wow Brian, not sure how I missed this thread. Soooo glad she is doing better. I had a very similar experience with a neighbors dog, or my daughter did! Very scary!! Dog bite plus kids face! 8 stitches on her lip! Anyway speedy recovery for her!

oh my..late to this thread. glad your daughter will be ok.

brings back memories. i was 8, visiting an aunt who had dogs, and on more than one occasion my dad "warned" my aunt about her rambunctious new addition to the herd.

the new dog (dunno the breed, but reminded me of a black/white "Lassie') jumped up and clawed me on the face. the details are rather unpleasant but a hospital trip and stitches outside and inside my mouth were needed. a two inch scar then is now only one inch and largely faded away now almost 50 yrs later.

right after it happened, my aunt (an elderly lady at the time) tried to tell me all was ok and she'd put a "Band-Aid" on it. though i was only 8, my white tee-shirt was red and sticky, and that "metallic" taste that was literally choking me meant something else.

my dad was not as cool-headed though. at the sight of his torn-up son, i recall an angry demand (sounded like a lion roaring to me) to produce the dog, then my aunt hanging on his arm as he stormed out of the room, and then never seeing that dog again - ever.

my dad did TWO bad things..."dealt with" the dog apparently with his bare hands then didn't produce him (so we couldn't determine if dog was rabid), but more importantly wasted time before taking me to the hospital.

a fine man my dad was indeed, my hero in SO many ways...but to me looking back with adult eyes, it was not his finest hour when he was confronted with this situation.

i never had to face something like it as a parent when my kids were young thankfully so i dunno what i would have done. we never got a chance to discuss the whole event before he passed away a short five years later when I was 13.:depressed:

again, glad everyone is OK in the thrashingcows homestead and a speedy recovery to all.:)

What your father did was understandable, parents can become homicidal when their children are injured, it is a normal emotion. You were lucky to have someone love you so much. May he rest in peace.

thanks and yes i was. my dad was great. miss him every day.

i have been mad enough on TWO occasions in my life..only TWO .. that IF the object of my rage were in front of me, there is no telling how I would have behaved.

its also true, that IF the "object" were there, I might have behaved less angrily (part of what was making me mad was the fact i COULDNT get to that object).

its frightening, though, after the rage passed, to think about what i MIGHT have done (or been done TO me) while I was literally, no BS, "seeing red."

anyway, as a parent i can imagine what my dad was thinking at the moment he saw me, and realized his warnings went unheeded, and now there's a hole in his 8 year old kid's face. i am sure he was "not himself" when he did what he did.

i just hope I am not "tested" --ever, for my remaining days "topside" -- in such a situation as was shared by Brian
