New to me 78 NYB on its way but please Don't tell my wife

Well gentlemen…….

Been a while…. Had to finish up house and then came move in and take oldest to grad school in Gainesville… then a huge kidney stone plugged up my works but I’m recovering…. Well at least not dead.

I did manage to do an idle running test of each cylinder just before the stone struck.

Brought her to lowest possible idle and then pulled out each plug wire one at a time and checked rpm drop.

result: number 4 shows lowest drop. Almost 0 actually. Rest are between 40 and 50 rpm

I’ll repeat with car blocked in drive and raised idle to 900 to confirm.

listened around with my stethoscope and the #4 exhaust has slight tick. Bent?

Getting the camera ready for when I can do it without seeing stars.

But right now , and for the next few weeks, I’m still in healing mode with only light household sorting duties allowed and 1/2 time in the office.

hope you’ve all had a good summer.
Get well, sorry to hear you've been under the weather.

Yeah sucks to hear about that kidney stone, glad you're on the mend.

I’m back.

In case you were wondering…. I’m just fine.

house is all finished.

back to work on the New Yorker.

but first…. I have to pick my daughter up at the airport.

Got this nifty little Bluetooth device that lets me hook up to the stock radio wirelessly. Works great!

I can even use it to charge my phone.

Tomorrow marks 4 years to the day that I bought this car. Been a very busy 4 years looking back at this thread.

I washed her good and even tried out a new product on it. Ceramic coating “wax”. Spray on wet and buff dry.

Put a Mother’s shine on the wheels and treated the leather to some neatsfoot dressing.

Yesterday afternoon I fixed the switch on the right rear window, overhauled the washer reservoir and pump, and, repaired the driver’s side wiper arm (though I will probably look for a replacement).

here she is for your viewing pleasure and critique…. With and without a hose in the picture.

Merry Christmas to all!

I have been following your thread for awhile and the 78 is gorgeous!
Hoping all the problems get sorted out soon.
I'm also a fan of the Cordoba wheels and have them on my 76 N'yer
I've been looking for longer studs (3 inch) but have not found any, Dorman did not show a listing,
could you point me in the right direction?

Happy New Year, Vlad

That's a good color combo.

I have to agree with Stan. No matter how hard that I tried I couldn't get that damn Lean Burn and carb to operate correctly on my 78 NYB. The damn thing just wouldnt run correctly. I put that Eddie intake and carb on it along with the Lean Burn elimination kit and it ran like dream. Straight out of the box with zero adjustments.....except setting the timing. And now that I have the race engine and complete MSD ignition system in her now I'm sure I can run mid 11's. Quite a bit more in her with a more aggressive ring and pinion.

I agree, with the rebuilt engine to ‘69 spec., the lean burn is totally out of its element. Saving my pennies for a Sniper fuel injection system. That system will be able to use my Lean Burn Distributor and allow for good timing tuning. If I could do that with the Lean burn, that would be good enough. But the parameters of the timing and steps are too limited and unchangeable for it to work optimally.

Still working on my gremlin, by the way, but it is much better. Put some octane boost in and took timing in a few degrees.

regarding you build……

At this point, I would think your problem is getting and keeping the power on the ground.

Did you instal a limited slip Diff? I can’t recall.

A few guys on FCBO have run the Sniper system and ended up with decent results.

Yep, I need a limited slip diff with 4.10's. I would be happy with 3.55's because I don't go to the track very often with this car.

With the Direct Connection Stage kits that will be available for my Redeye I will be pursuing that angle of racing in the future with the Redeye.

Lastly, if the Hellcat engine pallet from wrecked Hellcats were available when I started the NYB build.....I would of went that direction with my NYB. And would have to fabricate a Dana 60 axle for it.
