New Yorker - 65 vs 66

The '65 and '66 New Yorkers also have the double cardan front joint like the Imperials, but unlike the Imperials, just a single rear joint.
Specific only to New Yorkers and not 413/440 Newport, 300s, or T&C models?

Just curious,

As far as I know, based on the parts books, just the New Yorker.

That said, my 300L has the double cardan front joints. It may have been added somewhere in the car's life though.

The early 65 NY also have the isolated rear torsion bar mount like the Imperial. Early Monaco has it too. If it has clear taillights then likely.

One more thing-the 65 is the last year of the rear pump in the tranny. So you can push start it and tow with out removing the drive shaft. 65 New Yorker and a few Imperial touches like the door arm rest is a built in to the door panel and not a bolt on rectangle. Drive train is smoother with the front cardinal/double u-joint. Headlight glass cover. Grill is very much like a Imperial's. I have had both a 66 and my current 65. I like the 65 better. My opinion.

I truly love my 65 New Yorker 6-window town sedan, the 413 is excellent. But I am sure that the 66 has the same feel and power, so it's a tossup. In your case, since the 65 is the coupe, I'd choose that car. Cheers!

My 66 had a regular joint on both ends.

Windsor built car car if that makes a difference.

I got out my '65-66 Canadian Chassis service manual and it does show the double cardon joint, but it doesn't specify what car it's used in like the US FSM does.

So, being built at the Windsor plant to sell in Canada may be the reason. I was surprised at the differences in the Canadian 300 v. the US version... But really who knows??

I had both 65 and 66 Imperials tw0 73 New Yorkers, 69 Polara 2 door 59 Imperial etc
one thing not mentioned is that the converter and input shaft may be different and may have been changed
if you rebuild the 65 small input tran go to the later trans and converter
pistons are much harder to find for a 413 lots of choices for a 440
I put transgo reprogramming kits in all cars as I tow gives you "back to low" and will hold gears at any speed
the trans filter is different for the cable shift trans

I used velvetouch metallic brakes nothing like having your brakes fade going down a steep hill in the Rockies NLA I think

both cars are candidates for new timing chains and valve stem seals]
have someone follow you and coast down from max speed then get on the throttle white smoke is valve stem seals (not to say the guides are not toast too)
blacksmokeis rings
Mobil 1 or Penzoil Ultra 0 w 40 works good hot or cold climate

The glass headlight covers and the white tail light lenses, on the 65 New Yorker, make it more unique and desirable in my opinion. The 66 looks like it should have glass headlight covers, but doesn't.
