That's strange how it got in there without having a hole in the valley pan. I don't think varmints did it...they have no way of getting in there.

Could they have taken it through the carb and into the intake where the engine was started and it circulated through the engine? How about Vacuum?

With some of the weird stuff I've run across on this car so far, I would not be surprised if one of the previous owner put the insulation under the pan instead of on top where it goes. lol

Nope. No path into the valley area.

Maybe so.......that's the only way it got of got in there. Was the oil pickup clogged with insulation?
 
Got the engine pulled out yesterday and secured to a stand. Can't wait to tear into it.

I've used a couple of jackstands on the rear several times when pulling a complete drivetrain and used an adjustable engine jig to get it out without tearing anything up.
