OK you truckers...

And we won't talk about the yearz and yearz of running only the fast lane from Youngstown to the water gap because the Pennsylvania DPW couldn't figger out how to keep the water table from invading and undermining the curb lane

Ah, Jer, we all have our infamous road sections that puckered our orifices just thinking about them.
For me it was The Cross Bronx heading South every freakin night and trying to survive it without smashing my beany against the cab roof or getting shot at.
All my career I made deliveries to the ghetto areas at 3 o'clock AM alone and that never scared me as much as one round trip on The Cross Bronx.

PS: You will. never see a NYCPD cop exit their car on a stop on The C.B.

Notice he did not have a yellow motor in that truck...... Just saying

If you want to make a living best to leave those to the asphalt cowboys

Fleet switched to Cats once on a big purchase.
Once.....

Governed @ 63 mph at 1150 RPM.
Mileage actually dropped and dealer had a daily shuttle of tractors in and out for warranty work during the standard fleet lifespan of 5 years.

Fortunately, every two years a new cycle of tractors arrived (they were Cummins. :D. ) and I got my *** out of that torturous seat asap.

With every purchase, the company tried something new. Automatics. Ugh. Single double wide tires on the drive axle. Ugh. Fixed position fifth wheels. Ugh.

Garage kept a huge inventory of mudflaps because of that 5th wheel fiasco.

I can't say I would have chosen a Cat, but unlike buying a truck, the choice of powerplant in a coach is up to the manufacturer. Freightliner Custom Chassis changed from Cat to Cummins in 07 because Cat chose not to meet the new emissions rules for OTR since their core business is heavy equipment.

Those 07 emission stds. drove International to the brink of bankruptcy.

Thank you U.S. Gum'mint for almost killing one of America's most historic heavy industry and opening the door to Mercedes to walk in and capture the market ....
What Mercedes has done to ruin the Freightliner name is disgraceful.

There is a whole untold story about the corruption tween MB and the EPA

They are not bad I have no luck with them even when I wasn't paying the repair bill (co. driver). I just have to get my digs in to the lurkers lol.

Emissions and filters have messed up all manufacturers . 8 k on my last new truck resulted in keeping the factory rep quite busy. Several were sent back .

I drove a mid-size truck (Mack Midliner) for about 5 years, I was so happy when I got that truck and the F-700 I had before had a wheelbase and suspension that on this one stretch of road for about 10 miles the truck with see-saw so bad I had to find a different route. In the Mack it was more like a back message.

For those years I drove 300+ miles throughout Southern California on the freeways and surface streets, once a week I went to Sacramento a 700 mile round trip, once a month Phoenix Arizona and back an 800 mile round trip.

Part of me misses that job, loved being on the road even in LA on the freeways. The worse thing that ever happened was when a Ford Fairmont tried to run me off the road. I'm in the right lane this car slams into my driver side and I let up and tried to move right to get away and he repeatedly hits me again and again just like in the movies till I'm on the shoulder stopped. Apparently the passenger grabbed the wheel to indicate a last minute instruction.

There was a time I thought I wanted to be a Trucker (the real thing) but wasn't keen on the living on the road lifestyle, I was 14 at the time.

Company I worked for before I put my truck back on the road. Took delivery of a brand new of many 386 Pete that did not make it from the dealer to our yard, shut off and would not restart, towed whole the dealer plate was still on it lol.

No, buried a truck mid fuel tank in early spring on midshift on a lease in the middle of nowhere

CAT stands for Can't Afford This.

I had three of them, a 3406 PCTA a 3406 DITA and a 3406 ATAAC. They all worked well when they worked and cost me nothing but money when they didn't which was often.

I know lots of guys that get excellent service out of them but I was never one of them.
