Just because...
Mr. C's Imperials arrived Monday... yea!!!
After unloading and securing the cars, I went to the local tax collector's office for title and tags. This was not my plan, I had intended to spend $30 each + FedEx and have an agency take care of this. In order to verify the VIN numbers for title work I reached out to a contact in the Orange Co Sheriff's office... was referred to proper contact in the auto-theft division... called and went straight to a recorded message "The Orange Co Sheriff's office no longer does VIN verification... Go to the Tax Office and get a temporary (paper) plate so you can drive the car to them for Vin verification."
So I think "crap... I want to plate these cars fast...". I arrive at the Tax office closest to the cars, only a couple miles, at about 1:00pm and wait in line for the receptionist. Time stamp 1:46 I am texted my place in line for title work will be an estimated 125-145 min. wait. Just fooling around with the system I reply with "S" for a status update..."there are 110 people in front of you estimated wait is 227-247 min. @ 2:02 time stamp...
@2:32 101 people 323-343 min.
@3:02 91 people 3:23-3:43 min.

@5:36 I am called
So I go to the window, explain what I am here for. "You need to go to the sheriff's office for the VIN verification." NO I DON'T, and repeated the info from the recording. Looking at the paperwork, she found a problem "We can't do this, you need a bill of sale form". "I already came to this office to get the paperwork you're people said was required, I have conducted this transaction and shipped the cars from across the country". Washington isn't across the country" titles are in her hand. "Washington state IS". "I can't do this without a bill of sale because you didn't fill out the title correctly". "Where do you want me to sign?" "That would be illegal". "May I speak to a supervisor?"
The supervisor, without looking at the paperwork informs me I haven't filled out the titles correctly and this can't be done. "I came to your office and got the paperwork you recommended" (I also spoke to the non-state run agency and added a power of attorney form at their recommendation). The supervisor looks over the paperwork and tells me I did not fill out the "odometer disclosure" section. "I want them titled mileage exempt, they are 1974 models"... eventually these two decide that I actually do have rights to the cars and they actually can issue the paper plates @ 6:30pm.
Tuesday I scheduled an appointment on the website for Wednesday. I was at the shop until 9pm Monday, tucking in the twins. Tuesday @ 4:00ish I arrive at the tag office with the 2 door. "We can't do a VIN verification, because I'm the only receptionist here". I explain the situation "I can only drive one at a time, may I speak to a supervisor?". The same supervisor from the day before comes out and verifies the VIN... she even tries to hide the dirty looks.
Wednesday, I arrive for when appointment should have been. Unfortunately, looking at my phone for the first time since making the appointment, I see that on the third response message they sent says my appointment is for next week... I explain to the receptionist my error and get registered for this day.

@ 4:14 called to the window
This clerk takes the titles and paperwork as I am sorting it out... its very confusing when both cars are 1974 and are the same on paper except for VIN and number of doors... and one has a VIN that ends in 1974... we go outside and she verifies the VIN on the 4 door. We go inside and she works on the transfer. I offer her the power of attorney forms and she says she doesn't need them... I really like her, she has a great attitude and acts like she isn't have an axe to grind with humanity. I tell her the supervisor and other clerk thought the power of attorney papers were important... she looks startled and takes them to the supervisor to she if she has missed something. The supervisor glares at me from her glass office and is making a "brush away" gesture with the back of her hand... I only am guessing the conversation was something like "just get that ******* out of here". My clerk comes back and thanks me for pointing out the importance of those papers and she is very sweet throughout the completion of the transaction. At 5:30ish I leave the Tax Collector's office as people are trying to still sneak in the "out" door... the security guard is excited he won't have to see me again this week... I may have to put him on my Christmas card list if I go back there.
I wish I was in Highlands County Florida, with a population the size of my zip code... I believe this stuff would be a much more pleasant experience. BTW on Wednesday, the "nice" clerk told me I could have had a Florida notary do my VIN verification... I had "lost" that information in my anxiousness to get the twins legal and in safely in my garage... So now I am busy trying to make up the 13-14 hours I lost this week...
