224 Townsend Street, San Francisco. CA. In the Central SoMa ("South of Market") neighborhood.
Art-Deco styple, it was built 1935 as a parking garage -- still kinda odd because it appears to have been built with "offices" in front, parking in the back, almost 90 years ago.
I caught up with story in 2017 with a zoning "dustup" -- attracted by the architecture and auto-related usage for parking.
Last pic is what is is now.

2017 Proposal - Keep facade (its got a historical landmark designation), build a 105 room hotel behind it.
2022 - Used for something else, still no hotel yet, per Google Street view. I am sure the past five years were eventful for this property.

Not uncommon in big cities. Another purpose built parking structure, 1940, in Philadelphia, 11th at Chestnut. This building has never been anything else. And it has a limestone facade -- like a regular commercial building.
Art-deco, tail end of the era (basically WWII ended that style) as it it missing many of the embellishments common of those designs. There is so much cool architecture .. buildings, cars, toasters, trains, planes, etc -- from the art deco era it could be is OWN thread.
Circa late 1930's as a rendering.
Today - catfight about whether it should be declared historic structure.

Back in 05 on one of my California trips, I found this old station just north of Santa Monaca. It was torn down shortly after I took these pictures, a real shame.
