Photos of Vintage Auto Dealerships, Repair Shops, and Gas Stations

1939 Glendive Montana. Building is gone now, looks like it was a blacksmith. Note the horseshoe shaped windows and entrance with the anvils on the building.

From the FB post accompanying this pic:

"On March 9, 1901, the Olds Motor Works, located along Jefferson near the Belle Isle Bridge in Detroit, was destroyed in a fire.
The Detroit News called it “a spectacle of rare magnificence.” A separate foundry building survived, and a single Curved Dash runabout was able to be saved.

Ransom Olds temporarily converted the surviving building into his manufacturing operation and managed to produce 425 cars in 1901. However, he elected to build his new manufacturing facilities back in Lansing, where he originally started building small gas engines and experimenting with electric, steam and gas-powered cars. above 1947.

Cool little joint with art deco flavor. It was built in 1926. The car in the B&W photo is a 1947 Studebaker.

Car in the later, color photo is a 1956 Packard Caribbean (Packard was in its death throes about this time ... might have even been their last year in business).

ASIDE: 1956 Packard Caribbean. Couldn't resist. I'd still spin that baby proudly.

Former Earl Evans Chevrolet, circa. 1256, located on Mentor Ave. at Fairgrounds, Painesville, OH. Mid Century Modern.

It's long gone, totallly replaced by a brick box suitable for retail ... the original building, though architecturaly stylish, didn't maximize under-roof real estate.

Last time it was a dealer. Building believed to be 100 years old. Original brick facade, likely painted over many times. They tried to go with the GM corporate design, best they could do was the colors an a regulation sign.

249 N Main st, Alturas, CA, about 20K sq. ft., looks like limited alternative (other than vehicle/warehouse related) usage potential without large investment. Looks to a little bit out in the sticks as far as CA real estate goes.

2007 (can't find anything earlier)
