Another piece to the puzzle.
Spindles. Caliper brackets and backing plates from an 86 Fifth Avenue to put disc brakes on my 61 Chrysler.
Thanks to Jim Rawa for the information on how yo do this swap on an fl car.
Cut both tie rods a half inch, then cut the sleeve a quarter inch on both ends. Bolt it all together!

The vacuum set up I saw was on a street rod with a blower. The guy who built it said he used the pump and booster from a Dodge Caravan with front discs and rear drums.

Back in the hunt again!

So, I'm a little thick between the ears.
I would need to get the booster, vacuum pump, master cylinder and all ancillary parts. Like brake pushrod etc; from the Caravan to use this set up?

More work done to my 61 Chrysler Newport two door hardtop!

Subframe sandblasted, coated with chassis saver, then painted gloss black! Same with all suspension componets. Wheel spindles and disc brake caliper brackets and backing plates coming next.

All new suspension parts have arrived.
All new disc brake parts ordered and be here by Tuesday.

Inner Fenders are next on the parts to be painted. Have been media blasted and ready for sanding and paint!

As some on here are aware, I painted the 413 valve covers the original gold, then discovered that they wouldn't work on my 440.
Got the correct 440 covers and did some body work, paint and fresh repop decals.
Pictures don't do them justice!!

Another picture shows them with the 6 pack air cleaner lid I had airbrushed with my version of The Golden Lion!

Yes, you will probably have to make or re-drill the mounting plate for the booster. You will need to do some measuring to see if the Caravan brake pedal and mount could be adapted to fit your car or you might need to alter the Caravan actuator rod to hook it to the '61 pedal assembly. The other choice might be to find the early pattern Bendix dual diaphragm booster and use the '67 or later dual pot disc brake Master cylinder with it and the vacuum pump from the Caravan. Either way you are going to have to create the mount for the booster. I would suggest looking up the capacity of the Caravan pump to see if it is going to need a reserve tank to power the Bendix booster. This will be one of those projects that will take some serious tinkering and a lot of patience to get right. In either case, you should convert your '61 to a split brake system and you will need an adjustable proportioning valve to balance the brakes.

My idea I rigged up to get the car, less subframe, up on the trailer.
Would have worked flawlessly had my friend not mounted boards on his trailer to keep car doors from bumping fenders when opened.
Made it a little but of a project. Wish I'd engineered it differently. But without that wood step up on the trailer. Would have performed flawlessly.

This will be an interesting sleeper when you get it done. Have you been able to locate pedals for the stick setup? Those are sometimes a hard item to find. There is a work around for the low vacuum from a big cam. You can use a Mopar vacuum pump off a later model with fuel injection, this setup does not use manifold vacuum to power the booster unit. Snotty is correct, those valve covers are for the early closed chamber heads and can't be readily adapted to the later style head.

Been a while since I posted on here.
Taking care of a sick wife with Alzheimers 24-7, that is now bedfast, ain't for sissies.
That being said. It's been slow going. Add to that the car has been dormant for a couple of years due to my paint and body man going to jail and now looking at prison time.
Just recently moved the car from his house in WV to a friend, who has been restoring a 61 himself, to finish what paint and body it needs and then reassemble it for me.
Getting the car the 4.5 hours to him, with no subframe attached to the body, was a challenge in itself. Being tired led to a couple of issues, but finally got that mission accomplished.
He has jumped on it and inventoried all the parts boxes to see what is missing from the original tear down.
Lots of missing specialty bolts. Luckily, I have a good source for missing parts as Benny Buckner's yard, with about 100 FL cars is only 20 minutes away.
I've already robbed the bolts and the adjustment forked shim for the steering box. A couple of new parts i bought for the suspension are missing. I'll have to repurchase new.
Next trip to Benny will be for control arm bolts. Upper and lower.

I have one question for members:
I'd like to put stiffer torsion bars on my 2 door 61 Newport, but don't know if there is a different, heavier car, or newer muscle car, with the same length bar.
Any help along those lines would be appreciated as I want this beast to corner these WV mountain roads.
