From what I am finding on build numbers, most of the sites are showing about 3400 Monaco 500's being built for 68. Being 45 years old it would be nice to find out just how many are left. I did a search and didn't come up with a registry so I am guessing there isn't one so any current numbers would just be a guess.

I think it'd be fun to run a registry.

20% is high, the general accepted percentage of a survival rate of any car is 10%. Of course there are exceptions to those particular standouts or collectible / high demand cars.

A registry should be kept of everything that shows up. BUT you need commitment by an individual with passion for that model car.

Start with yours, that's 1...now go from there!

There has to be a format, a place where those that have the cars can submit their information. I would have to do some research and do you open it up to all Monaco's or just the early 500's?

You can do it to what you want, All Monacos, every year, Only 68's. only 68 500's anything you want. I have a registry of 1970 Polara Convertibles but never developed a web site and one day I will. I have been keeping track of them for thirty years. Good thing too because so many have gone to the bone yard in the past ten they would have been lost.

I think I would include all first generation 500's..65 to 68.

Dave, do you have a website for the 1971 Polara vert info you have collected?

This seems like such a great idea that I decided to take a stab at it using a GoogleDoc form. I've never done a car registry before, so please give me any feedback you think would be helpful. It only took me about 10 mins to set up... which probably means I'm missing a lot. (Also, I've never used GoogleDoc forms before, so there might be technical glitches.)

And here's a link that lets anyone view the results:

It only has my car in it now, so it's not too interesting yet.

(Oh Red: I certainly didn't want to step on your toes. If you like this format & want to run it yourself, I'd be more than happy to transfer it over to you! I just thought it would be fun to set up, since this is kind of like what I do every day for my real job.)

Now you have two cars....

The more info we can get the better and we will be covering two major search engines.
