I'm getting to the point where I have questions for my respected fellow C Body enthusiasts. Some will be stupid, I work on fuel injection all day. Carbs and distributers I've never been taught.

The girlfriend and her mom convinced me finally that a 4 barrel is the way to go for my 318. (I'm not even joking, this came up over Sunday dinner).

So that poses questions;

My kickdown linkage, does it need to be altered? What about the throttle bracket?

I'm going to use a '68 340 4 barrel intake.

Do I need to change my wiring?

What do I need to change?

When I go disc brakes, what needs to be changed (other then the spindles, ball joints, master, booster, flex lines, etc?)

Where can I buy front end parts for my car? Control arm bushings, tire rods, pitman, idler etc?

Nick

Oh, that reminds me, Comp cam's? Good brand? Are their lifters good too or? Feelings on Edlebrock Carbs? Fuel economy? Ease of adjustment?

I'll start.

Altered, No Replaced Yes on both.

Do I need to change my wiring?
No.

What do I need to change?
Just the upper fuel line.

Just the spindles, ball joints (lower because it is different, upper because it is easier to just replace than try to save)
Master, yes, booster no.

The PST kit is a good deal but doesn't include the Idler, Pitman or Inner tie rod ends?
You local parts store should be able to get the other but PST can as well (but didn't ask if I needed them)

if you are going with a carb with an electric choke (which i would recommend) you will need to add a + wire for the choke. no big deal. i have a 1406 edelbrock on one of my pontiacs and it is a good overall carb. easy to adjust and is a copy of a carter afb. not sure if you would need an adapter for the intake or not. don't forget that you will have to change some brake lines around and add a proportioning valve to the brakes. as far as gas mileage, it depends on how heavy your right foot is.

Resist the temptation to over-cam that engine. I had a '68 Dart, and I dearly loved it, but it's little engine was wildly over-cammed. It was great fun, but slower than it should have been. On a C-Body, too much cam will really make it a slug. If you talk to the guys at Comp (or any other reputable company) and tell them what you have, they'll make a recommendation to you, and it will probably be milder than you were hoping.

very true. you need bottom end torque to get things rolling

Thank you. What do I replace my bracket and linkage with, I mean where can I buy it or what cars had what I need?

Thanks Jim. I figured on a 500 CFM Edlebrock with electric choke, a friend has one he had on a 318 and has all the adapters.

Just thought I'd address you both at once, I had a friend help me chose the cam, he's had more Mopars then anyone I know, It's all he's ever owned. He and I chose THE cam for my car. It will do exactly what I want, I want TORQUE, by the truck load, so we chose a Truck/towing cam shaft. But it also will still have some top end.

I may be young but I'm not nieve as to what I need to get 4100 lbs rolling. You can have 1000 horsepower and without torque your going no where.

i certainly can't accuse you of being nieve, nick. you are wise beyond your years. keep up the good work. :)
