I am starting to stress out about how to do the rear seal. The crank still has the knurling untouched.
The seal plate had these plastic inserts that look like they are in good shape. Should I reuse them?
Does anyone know what the black glue was they used at the factory? It looks like they used it across the top with the pan seal too.
I been trying to scrub the glue off with soap and hot water and a pot scrubber. It has some "spikes" to grab the rope, I'm trying not the damage them

This seal is the scary part for me.

This is where the FSM comes in handy. That operation should be detailed in it, IIRC.

Might be a YT video of Nick's Garage that mentions it also, as Nick is picky about B/RB rear main seals.

Enjoy!

It does but its a rope seal. I see guys using pipe cleaners and silicone. The original plastic pieces fit tight.
It seems like the factory used contact cement and maybe this?

I do watch nick and he had that leaky 383 nightmare. I want to avoid that at all costs. I think he got a new crank to fix it. I didnt get my block line honed for that very reason

Your going to keep the rope seal or use rubber? Use new side seals or silicone instead

LOL.... Watch this episode of Nick's Garage about the start of his 383 rear main seal ordeal.
It is scary OctoBoo'r so get ready to be very very very scared... LOL

This is like 4, 5, 6 parts(?) he really needs to make a playlist on this one (all tuber's need to do better with playlists).
I think in the end he settled for a re-knurled crank and a rope seal.
