Recommendations on new radiator for my 1968 plymouth sport fury

Hi I have a 1968 Plymouth sport fury convertible that is an l code 440 . When I restored the car I had the radiator which was original to the car recored.The other day I was pulling the car out of the garage the tank let go by the bottom hose and all the antifreeze leaked out and they are really corroded. I can't complain could of been much worse. This car came with a 22 inch radiator, regular fan and no shroud. I fixed the original because it was original to the car. At this time I would prefer the car to run problem free and cool over a numbers matching radiator. My plan was to put a clutch flan a 22 inch basic replacement radiator that will accept a schroud. My question is what radiator and specs have people have success with there are s many different ones available aluminum etc different number of cores and different size aluminum tubing in the cores. Could someone please who has experience with these new style radiators please give me there recommendations. Sorry for the long story thanks in advance Frank

The problem is you are going to get a wide variation of opinions from success stories from various members. That's because, generally there is no 'right way' to go. It all depends on your budget, your motor mods, your driving habits and the climate you come from.
It sounds like your car is basically stock. So that makes it a little easier as literally all the options available will probably get the job done. With that in mind, I'd focus in on the budget and what value you get for your money. ie; overall cost, shipping cost, warranty, how long you plan on keeping your car etc. things like that!

I had a 22inch 2core with no shroud also. Updated to 22inch 4core from Champion. Had to do some drilling to make it fit. Also went to fan clutch instead of solid state. When sitting still it warms up fairly quickly. Im sure a good pusher fan on the front would do wonders also but I just have not made it that far yet. Just my experience so far

Never had that experience in all my years of driving older mopars and I didn't recore too many rads. Maybe just get another shop to do the job again. Car was designed to use what it came with.

I was running a steady 180 and it would go up to 195 in heavy traffic my problem was putting it in the garage I have a high ranch so I had to make a million maneuvers and I found out the belt was slipping and the temp would go to 210 -215 I pulled it out to change and tighten the belt and the tank let go. what better place my luck usually would be doing 75 on the hwy 100 miles from home champion seems to have a great reputation and I like the 1dea of th 4 core THANK YOU

I was running a steady 180 and it would go up to 195 in heavy traffic my problem was putting it in the garage I have a high ranch so I had to make a million maneuvers and I found out the belt was slipping and the temp would go to 210 -215 I pulled it out to change and tighten the belt and the tank let go. what better place my luck usually would be doing 75 on the hwy 100 miles from home champion seems to have a great reputation and I like the 1dea of th 4 core THANK YOU

If you go with the champion just use your old rad as a overlay so you can drill the proper holes in it. Thats what I did and it was no big deal. Im happy with it. It was very fairly priced also. I am gonna add a pusher fan in the very near future and I think it will cure the heating up issues I still have

Coldcase. My 26 inch rad works awesome. Mid 90's slow speed cruising all I saw was about 198 degrees with a 195 degree stat.

One other thing, I had a Champion 2 row in it before, the Coldcase holds almost a gallon more of coolant.

That's great I would love to put a 26 inch in it but The whole car is finally restored so I don't want to start drilling holes the cold case sounds like a great option and I am going to add a clutch fan. Its hard to believe on a 440 no clutch fans no schroud and a 22 inch radiatorThank you for your response much appreciated

I agree it cost 500.00to recore it I wanted to keep it a original as possible.I might of used a crappy shop. I had the radiator for about a year before I installed it and for some reason the brackets and the tanks kept corroding and turning green I cleaned it up several times and repainted it and a month later it would be the same. The bottom just past the hose is green again and totally disintegrated. I am very fortunate it let loose in my driveway especially with a brand new motor . Thanks for your help

I can't agree more here you have someone who is a member took there time, spent their money to sponsor our site and is willing to give you advice and a discount a no brainer. A while back when I was restoring my car I had to paint the top part of my dash and I used herbs paint which is a sponsor. I realize for maybe a huge job you might have to go a different route. But there was people that were hell bentto the point of being out and out insulting toward me for using it and the company which had a stellar reputation. I used it to paint my kick panels seat backs and dash panel. They could not of been nicer and there product came out perfectfor my needs. After a while you realize the great majority of members on this forum are great 99.9% are aces and the .1% are asses there the ones that like to hear themselves talk and everything sucks but there car Anyone I dealt with on buying parts have been great One guy had the parts to me in the mail so fast I didn't even get the check out yet. Others sent parts that were 10x better than described Overall we have a great club and I would prefer to do business with someone who is sponsoring us than a big chain who could care less about you. your site or your car

Thank you for getting in touch I preffered to keep the car stock looking but being realistic to have that radiator let loose in my garage is like having a heart attack in the best hospitals emergency room. My luck is usually doing 75 in the middle of nowhere. I was fortunate the car has a 22incn radiator the car is an original 68 sport fury l code with a 440 super commando, The car has a aluminum direct connection manifold that is match portedit had edelbrook heads that are pocket ported it has a direct connection aluminum aluminum water pump and housing. it ha 10-1 compression full roller motor it has a fairly mild lunati voodoo cam I am running a edelbrook 800 thunder series (which might of been a mistake I think its to big) Trany is stock was built to hemi spec I have 3:23 limited slip with stock converter.I had the radiator recored cause it had the original numbers it is only a 22 inch no flex fan or schroud that's the way the car came. I never dad a 440 that was not a 26 Ever since I got the radiator done it ran a 185 in heay traffic it would creep toward 200. my problem was when I would pull it in my garage I have a high ranch and I hav to make a million maneuvers to get it in.I noticed that the belt was was slipping I was able to pull the fan and noticed the belt slipping on the water pump pulley and the fanI went to tighten the belt up that's when the radiator let loose it is completely corroded out.My thought were to put on a 17 inch clutch fan A schroud a three core cold case 22 radiator I have a closed overlow. My question is wether to put a electric push fan in the front in the front.I just did a total restoration on this car so my goal is to get a radiator that will just bolt in place The car even ith itt modification looks 100 stock. The radiator I plan to paint black. I put the car together to enjoy with my family it is a car I liked since a little boy and it is I of23 I just don't want to have a heating issue I get on the car occasionally but it is definitely not a streetracer and I don't beat the hell out of it. I have all the original parts and I will keep the old radiator and see if I can get it recored again correctly but for now it is more important to be able to enjoy
