Scenicruisin'..?

We looked at one in Indio, CA. The rules were:
Class A not more than 10 years old
No bus conversions
No class C
No class 8 coaches
Minimum length (escapes me now)
No car trailers

We didn't stay there.

Guess they have (had) their reasons.

its "discrimination" -- the legal kind, which i am fine with as a practical matter -and apparently they think (and they are probably reacting to what customers told them) this is the best marketing "policy" for them.

BUT, with those rules, it seems like the kinda place EVEN if my vehicle fit the requirements, i wouldn't wanna go to anyway.

again, i would have NEVER thought this was a potential issue with an old coach RV.

"Sokath, his eyes uncovered!" (all the Trekkie TNG-ers will get that one :) )

All lots there are owned individually and run by an HOA. Owners put their lots up for rent when they are away if they choose to. $105/night minimum. That will explain a lot. Not sure if you would want to attend. Oh, and if your coach likes to mark it's territory, there is an extra charge for clean-up. This is from their picture gallery.

an HOA (they can make whatever legal rules they want) and a high end joint (landscaping and tiled, and that fixed shelter/bar thing).

picture indicates it makes more sense on the restrictions..some might be "physical necessities" , given the way the place may be laid out and/or equipped to deal with a rickety rig that may be prone to marking its territory as you say,

i'll dial down my "snob" rhetoric a bit in THIS case .. i wouldnt want my neighbor putting up a chain link fence. its not that kinda neighborhood. same for the way that place looks -- it aint your average rural KOA

that said, doesn't look like my idea of RV 'ing.

this seems more like my preference, green and open, people around but not parked five feet away from you, and especially if some water is around and places for grandkiddies (if i have any by then) to run around and commune with nature.

yup. Mr. Prevost and Mrs. Newell may not want to be parked next to you. :)

but man, i really like that. i am not remotely skilled enough a driver to spin it, but wow

If the cab has open access to the box yes. Separate cab, no. ALSO, A real prick of a cop could nail you with seatbelt fines depending on that state's laws.

Ironically, School busses are exempt. WTF?

Here's the real boolchit part. You dont need a Class A with a Doubles/Tripples endorsement for this:

ok, i kinda get the separate cab thing.

school buses with no seat belts defies logic. we DROVE our kids to school when they were young for that reason (and the fact my youngest - a four at the time - said she was NOT gonna ride it with no seat belts! cried the whole way there that first day --we never made (two girls, two years apart) them ride school buses again.)

I see somebody dragging TWO things behind them, they get a wide berth until i zoom past them... did NOT know it required NO licensing :(

Where ever this does get in everybody will want a look...

Some states have school bus seat belts... not sure who all does and doesn't. Aside from mine I dont care about school buses except that i get pissed they all run empty here.

RV seat belts are easy. Anchor the couch or a booth and install cheap aftermarket lab belts. Look at the factory builts and thats all they do behind the front seats.

I can not even begin to see how the multi trailer thing is a good idea. Living in a state where you see a minivan pulling a 20 foot boat on a regular basis, I would get pissed to see doubles here. Most of the morons I see towing something have no clue and are over weight... I have seen 1/2 tons with goose neck balls.

300rag... I knew I liked you... an enclosed trailer is so much smarter than a "toad". I do hear lots who use them say its because so many campgrounds wont let the trailer in or charge them... Who cares... camp elsewhere.

I built mine so I didn't have to drive at events I drank at... and just because I wanted to. Of note... my as built height at the roof top a/c (highest point) is 13'1"... the truckers understand... I can drive anywhere the big race hauler can go... but don't even think about a side road if you haven't checked it out first. Even moving in town requires a little trip planning. Watch RVers getting hungup on driveways and take out canopies at gas stations because they think they're driving a car... amusing and sad.

After having done it both ways, there are advantages to each. Some of the campgrounds are a bear to maneuver around with just the 40' coach nevermind the extra 27' of trailer. The toad works much better there. It is also easier on the coach as you are just pulling the weight and not loading up the rear suspension and tires. Total length is less as well, so you get more places to choose from. The flipside is that when you get where you are going with the trailer, the car is still clean and you can back up with it, unlike the toad. It all depends what you are towing, too. Even if I could have gotten the truck into the trailer, the weight would have been too high for the coach (max 10,000 pounds)
