Other than fleet cars, does anybody have two or more fender tags that are identical in every way?
Same color,radio,vynil top,engine,trans,a/c,etc,etc.
To answer this with a theoretical approach I did a little number game. I worked out the total number of possible combinations for the "must" codes on the fender tags of 1974 Fury IIIs. Those are Body Style, Engine, Body Paint, Seats/Trim, Vinyl Roof and Heating/Cooling. The Upper Door Frame Color depends on the Trim, so that can be neglected. A radio was another must option, but the Radio code does not appear on the 1974 Fury fender tag. With the help of the
Color and Trim Selector you can determine the number of combinations for each body style and color. The 2-Door had three seat options against four options for 4-Doors, which in turn changes the number of Seat/Trim combinations available. Preliminary result:
455 (4-door)
414 (2-door)
Now we can multiply these results by the number of engine (K, J, M, N, T) and heating (H41, H51, H53) options. Not all combinations occurred equally often, though. I haven't seen a single 4-Door Sedan with the 440 engine yet and H41 is rare, so this really is the maximum variation to be expected, whereas the real-world variation was most likely less.
6825 (4-door)
6210 (2-door)
After that it becomes free variation of additional codes, depending on individual choices.
But the body color choices were not uniformly distributed. Avocado Gold and Tahitian Gold ruled, whereas colors like Silver Frost and Rallye Red were probably at the opposite side of the scale. The number of vinyl top, trim and seat combinations for these popular color choices on 4-door/2-door body styles are:
12/10 Avocado Gold
32/29 Tahitian Gold
Likewise, some additional codes occurred more often than others, like L31 and L81 from the Light Package and no other options added.
As the 4-door sedan with a total production of 27,965 was the most frequent body style, the probability to find two identical fender tags for an Avocado Gold 1974 Fury III sedan with the Light Package as the only additional option is relatively high. If, on the other hand, you're after unique fender tags for one out of one cars you'd concentrate your search on Tahitian Gold 2-doors, with only 14,167 produced the least frequent body style.
