Shift selector just moves freely

The on the colum shift handle is un hooked where do I go to re attach it

Auto or manual? In either case, Is the linkage connected at the base of the steering column (under the master cylinder/booster) and does it move when you move the shift handle? If this is all good, is the linkage connected at the trans? If this doesn't lead you to the trouble, report back with results and more info. Hope this helps! Lindsay

Usually this is not serious; just something came loose.

So far at the base it does not move

Others may have experience with this, but if the lever at the base of the column is not moving whe the shift lever is moved, the likley problem is that the shift lever housing is loose on the shift tube. the FSM will show the proceedure to strip the top end of the column and re-secure the housing to the tube.
