Shipping Parts ?

No I don't have a forklift. I pick things up myself........
If you asked people what they want to pay to ship something you would be shipping everything for free.
Why is it that you think I would rather just do things my way and not involve the customer!!?? Who are you to judge me or what I chose to do?? I think you have to much time on your hands to be trying to pick these petty fights!! I have respect for all the members of this forum.
Greasemonkeyman asked for help. I stated what I do. I feel its not a service to a customer to ask them to drive to a terminal, or a hardware store towns away cause there might not be one in there town because its cheaper and you get to sell a part. If people need the part, They understand there are shipping cost involved. You may do things differently that me. I can look at a part and get a good guesstament of what shipping would be.

USPS doesn't care how big a box is as long as a man can carry it in and it doesn't weigh very much .. like almost nothing at all or it fits in their pre-sized boxes (under 75 lbs) ... that's the gist but if you can carry something in that's the size of a fender in a box and it weights almost nothing counting the massive box it may vary. I mean a reasonable sized box.

FEDEX cares how big AND heavy it is but is more forgiving on heavy things by a very long shot. USPS is cost prohibitive for heavy. I've shipped a 2 BBL for $14 plus and a 1 BBL for $13 plus via USPS .. both are heavy for how small they are but they did not fit in their pre-sized boxes and if they don't fit it get's expensive real quick. FEDEX was more expensive for those 2 items so I used USPS. I've shipped steel wheels via FEDEX for $25 a piece. USPS isn't going to touch that.

Fastenal is better for big things and they don't care much how heavy it is. I've known a few guys to ship engines for ~$100 bucks across country. I got a quote for 3 steel wheels .. $100 bucks. I got a quote for 4 wheels and tires .. $100 bucks. As I said earlier tailgate and 70 Magnum manifolds $115, ship 2 727's $125 bucks . It all fits on a pallet ... about a $100 bucks.

Do you have a forklift at your house? More importantly do all your customers have a forklift and are they or do they all want to have to be present whenever the driver shows up?

I think people would rather choose for themselves on shipping and how much $ they want to spend and you are making out like your decision of only shipping door to door is in their best interest, when really it's probably your preference is BS. I don't pretend to know everything so if you care to offer up some companies and some examples of what you've shipped via door to door trucking companies I'd love to learn so I too can ship my stuff at the best price and in the customers best interest.

I'm not as big a parts seller as you. I'm just selling some stuff I have because I need the room, need to buy some part myself, and I don't want to throw or give it away. I'm not going out finding good candidates to strip out so I'm sure you have more experience than me and have sold many more parts than I, but I know what I know from trying to find the least expensive method for whoever wants what I have, and I'm honest and I make sure I pack stuff well.

I have bubble wrap too

Straight trim I ship in schedule 40 pvc. The 90 degree corners about the only way to ship them damage free is to send in a portrait box and pack it real well so there's packing on all sides and it can't flex. Flexing and bending is what damages parts.
Glass I wrap in 3 heavy layers of bubblewrap, and foam. I don't buy the store bubble wrap i use commercial grade.

So,aside from the crazy rates, what are you guys using to package large parts like bumpers, body parts, and large trim moldings that won't fit in a small package? I have some of those large interior back window moldings with the 90 degree bends that won't fit in a long PVC tube or full length quarter moldings that are approximately 6 feet long. How would you ship those without getting them damaged? How about shipping glass windows like back glass, door glass and windshields?

I have shipped bumpers without brackets in a 12x12x96 box. That is about the cheapest way to ship them. You would buy 2 12x12x48 and put them together. Its about 90-135 depending on where you are shipping to.

have gotten prices rangeing from 700+ to 250 so far...for 700 I can send parts by cab.....

.

I respect everyone, including you but if you don't want me to respond like that you should refrain from judgmental responses as if you are the only one who is in the right and everyone else is in the wrong.

I've said everything I had to say.

Iam sorry Are you off your meds or whatever else keeps you together!!?? I didn't post anything judgmental or ignorant or what ever else you stated I did. You didn't like it you cried and whined like a little kid who had there toy taken away because I posted what I do and why I do it!! What is your purpose here?? Why do you feel like you are the only one that has anything worth saying?? I don't care if you are a mod. I have been a member of this forum for over twice as long as you. Why is it that when I posted something about what I do you took it as a personal assault of your intelligence!!?? ONCE AGAIN GROW UP!! PUT YOUR BIG BOY PANTS ON!! WE ARE ALL ADULTS HERE AND YOU DON'T NEED TO BE GETTING ALL BENT OUT OF SHAPE OVER NOTHING!!

BTW, I want everybody here at FCBO to know that 68plymouth383 is a most honorable person to do business with.

I have always spent more to ship things than other people assume it cost...... I wrap all my parts in heavy bubble wrap, I pack and pad my boxes, and make sure my parts arrive in the same condition they left in. Ask anybody that has bought from me if there parts arrived damaged due to poor packaging. Is it cheap no. I only use USPS for flat-rate. I use fedex for larger items. I use a LTL freight truck for Hoods and large body parts. Almost always the dimensions of a shipment make the shipping more than the weight. My customers buy a service from me. I don't ask them to drive to fastenal, greyhound ect to pick there items up. They get shipped door to door.

You are correct it costs more to ship than many people seem to think. Unfortunately that's about it.

Further, congratulations. This is the single most pretentious, presumptuous, judgmental, and self absorbed comment I have ever seen on any forum and to top it off it's all slopped on with a steaming bucket of insinuation and innuendo. I'll add high horsed and holier than thou because they certainly fit too.

Do your customers have any say in the shipping method or do make that decision for them or do you just cover all shipping charges and give them the item for the cost of the bubble wrap because you are so much better than everyone else?

Honestly you obviously are satisfying people and I don't doubt you are more than likely very reasonable in prices and do a good job shipping and people are satisfied or you wouldn't have parted out two cars already and for all I know many more but seriously. Judge much?

I stand by this
