they spent all that money investing in those changes for just one car for one year?

Actually that pales in compairson to the model changes made from year to year in the 60's ...... Look at 60-61-62-63 Plymouth as an example.....

And I recall there was a Romney in charge of some of that back then.

None of it made any sense whatsoever! I read an article in Collectible Automobile that said Chrysler was boasting about saving SIX POUNDS on the thinner glass and sheet metal!

Did Obama have something to do with it? Absolutely! LOL! Just kidding!!!

The biggest weight saving on the 78 NYB door panel was the chrome and black bezel around the door handle with the light in it. In 78 (and 78 only) they were chromed over plastic...74-77 they were pot metal and weighed at least twice as much.

I'm going to take a stab at the theory that the costly pot metal tooling wore out and since there was only one year left....

I've read several articles that said Chrysler was trying to save/extend the run on the big cars especially since the Imp retool to Chrysler increased sales drastically from 1976 on....where Chevy and Ford gave up the fight already. Most weight saving measures were attributed to increasing MPG according to Chrysler. Worn out tooling seems plausible since Chrysler knew in advance the big C's were doomed anyway and 1978 would definitely be the last year.

I know of two other guys waiting for that part. I'll pass it on. Great news for the Formal generation, indeed.
Now, about those roof rail weatherstrips....

None of you know where I live, so I don't think you'll be able to kill me for this, but.

Guys on the yahoo NYB site have (a) come up with a fix for the '78 wiper cam and (b) come up with a solution to the roof rail weatherstrip problem as well. Nobody should be having an issue with either of things.

And I know who came up with those fixes. My firend Kip Gardner. NYB fanatic extrodinaire!!!!!!!! My go-to guy for all repairs. he's done them all.

SOS!!!!

Somebody please provide the links to those solutions.....I need both!!!

I've given you the link twice already. I really think you suffered some recoil concussion back when... lol

There isn't any solutions to the wiper cam or the roof rail seals that I know about. I haven't seen a picture of either reproduced cam or roof seals. Have you? Some talk on yahoo a couple of years ago about reproducing a wiper cam. Didn't hear or see anything produced. And another article about using a wiper cam from a 78 or later Cordoba. I got the wiper cam and wiper motor from a Cordoba.........no way no how is it going to work.

Regardless..........
Here resides a few of the smartest Formal guys I have had the pleasure of meeting.
Unfortunately, there's only a few. But they make up for all the other guys.
These few guys have answered every possible question to any problem I have had because at least one of them went through it already.

Personally, I stopped going there several months ago because The Group had dwindled so badly in the last year, it'on life support.
Mr. C, I believe, was a Group member there also.

Thanks Stan. If someone did reproduce the wiper cam and roof rail seals, I would think it would be all over FCBO and EBay trying to recover production costs. I haven't heard a thing. I'll probably end up converting to 74-77 wiper cam system.

Most of the Yahoo groups have dwindled. Most have moved on to other boards because the format on Yahoo is horrible. The Polara group that Fratzog and myself belonged to was a great group of guys. A lot of excellent archived information that Fred had saved over the last eight years.
