Put 1968 Fury Convert in storage for the winter. Went to start and turn the key and it makes one click. Did the same thing when I tried to jump it with my truck -- turn key ans it makes one click. The Fury has a electronic ignition.

Thoughts?

Turn the key to run and then jump the two posts on the starter relay.

If it starts, you probably need a new relay.

But definitely clean the battery connections and make sure the battery is fully charged.

Thanks!
I had thought I had decent connection but will try again this weekend with a complete wire brush scrub and new cable connectors. Thing that threw me was that when I tried to jump, I even connected the jumpers to the battery cables both on and after where they connect to the posts and still just the one click.

thanks again. will update Monday with what happened!

New Development:

Finally got a free weekend and cleaned the cables, battery posts, checked battery (fully charged) and got new battery cable ends and put them on. Also put on a new starter relay.
Turned the key and same thing, a single click. tried 20 times. Tried jimmying the gearshift from park to neutral. tried all the wires. Nothing. Help!!

What next?

Thanks,
Mike

Are you sure the ground cable and mount area is clean and tight? If it is you may need a starter. Take yours to AAP or AZ and they can bench test it and lt you know if it good or not before buying another one.

Thanks for the note!
Can a starter go south that quick? I have never had an issue with the starter and everything worked fine when I put in garage in December. Can you clarify what you mean by the mount area? thanks!\
Mike

Follow the ground cable from the battery. Make sure it's clean and tight. My ground cable from the battery mounts to the intake manifold bolt on my 78 NYB.

Thanks! I will get after it again next weekend!

Try jumping the two posts on the starter relay. If it cranks, then you may want to look at the ignition switch.

If it does the same single click, then look at the cable connection at the starter. There may be something loose there.

Sometimes you can tap on the starter housing and get it to crank if the starter is marginal or has a dead spot.

Hope the input helps.

Yes, I was just about to ask if you've tried a remote starter switch and if the same condition exists. If you do this, and it works, you know the problem is not your starter.

When we first fired the Gremlin, nothing happened. NOTHING! Big Chris jumped the relay as said above and it turned over. After firing the motor and doing the 20 minute cam idle, we pulled the steering column - the entire ignition system needed to be replaced. Works fine now.

Do you have a test light? Have some one hold the key over and see if you have power at the starters small post, if so you need to replace the starter
