Reason for asking is that I'm doing some upgrades on my 71 fury and it would be smart to upgrade the rear. I have an 8¾ rear with open 2.76 in a 489 case sitting in a 69 fury that I'll probably never get around to working on. Has anyone ever done this swap successfully? I see on the charts that the 69 8¾ rear is about an inch and a quarter narrower drum to drum than a 71 8¾ and from measuring back and forth between cars it looks like I could get away with it and save a few bucks.

Make sure the spring pad center to center is the same and it should bolt in.

The next concern will be driveshaft length. If both cars are the same wheelbase and same trans ie 904 or 727, the shaft from the 69 should work. I'm assuming the length is different 8.25 diff vs 8.75.

for my 1970 Fury, I removed an 8.25 and installed an 8.75. 8.25 vs 8.75 did not make a difference in driveshaft length or u-joint size. 904 vs 727 however made a big difference, so when I converted from 904 to 727, the 904 driveshaft was replaced with a 727 driveshaft.
