The beginning of a new life and a new build!

Friend of mine put one of those in a mustang when I was Navy got stranded twice with that damn dist that was when I learned the value of using stock style stuff find parts in any A.P. of course now this stuff is getting so old it is not on all shelves

Well guys there is a little bit of an update. I will have more pics in the next day or two. Yesterday I received the new fuel tank from Yogi's inc. This tank is made by Tanks Inc. It is a 1970 mustang fuel tank and sending unit. I know so don't even start its a ford part! :yes_no:However the mustang tank is a 22 gallon tank compared to the factory 16 that was in the car and the sending unit has the same ohm rating as our factory senders did. I also have a brand new MSD 6AL2 box that I am going to be putting in the car and getting rid or that junk butt dizzy that is in the car. I have the new brake hoses and fuid as well and the oil and filter to change the oil in the car. I will check the brakes out and make sure that everything is in good working order and then take a short test drive to see how it does. Already pulled the original fuel tank so I will get a side by side of the two tanks. No more mounting straps holding the tank in. This baby goes in from inside the trunk. As I was pulling the old tank I saw that there was some rust in the trunk so guess what. I have to cut the floor out any how to get the tank in so no more repairing the trunk floor!

Nice little update. Please post pics of the trunk and fuel tank side by side with the old tank. Then as the install goes too,..LMAO. We likey pics!! Lots of pics!! :)

Can you do me a favor please, I'm going to be putting in new trunk weather stripping or gasket. Can you take a few pictures for me of yours, as mine is not there and need to know what side goes up??
Thanks man and very appreciated. Maybe where the two ends meet or something.

Most certainly my friend. I will try to get a couple pics tonight before we start our normal thursday night shows and post them up tomorrow. Just so everyone knows the frame rails in the trunk area are 31" wide and the fuel tank for a 70 mustang is 30 1/4" wide! Talk about cutting it close! LOL.

I'm really interested in seeing this done. I was thinking about putting in a fuel cell, but might wait until I see your setup. The tank will be in the trunk?

Thats a good idea especially if your trunk is riddled with holes, and your tank is bad its probably cheaper altogether and an extra 40_60 miles per tank. Thinking outside the mopar box I find this hard to do but sometimes it produces results

Yes sir, coming from someone who has a trunk mounted fuel Cell, I would do all you can to put the correct fuel tank in the correct location unless of course you are going the route of making a Pro-Street or Touring car. check here: it looks like a 66-68 rear fill but I would buy and modify this one with the original filler tube off your car. (be sure to look at the lower pics, the upper is a generic gas tank) http://www.jcwhitney.com/1965-1967-...ment-fuel-tank/p3038630d1783y1965-1967j1.jcwx

What's the reason behind replacing the tank? If you're replacing the tank because the original is bad, that's cool, but if the original is good, just send it out and have it cleaned and lined. I'm still interested in seeing the new tank installed and how you're going to do it..!

Hey you promised pictures today of the side by sides of tank and so forth..LMAO..! Don't forget the trunk shots of before and after. We wanna see everything! Just bustin on ya!

Wasn't trying to ignore. I had to leave early on Thursday because of my son being sick and wasn't at work friday either. I did get the tank roughed in this weekend as well as do some tear down on the front of the engine to do some resealing and powder coating on some parts. Give me a bit to get pics transfered over from my phone and I will get them up. I was swapping out the tank because they cleaned the original tank and I really didn't like what I saw left in the original and I also wanted some extra capacity.

Oh well not what I was finding. I was finding that it was 16. But its a moot point now that the new tank is in. And they are really easy to find if you ever need another one! LOL. Pics as soon as they show up in my email and I can post them.

You never answered my question.

Its easier to pull a tank out from the top then to balance on a jack and take the straps off. Heck just pulling the empty tank out of the car I almost knocked myself out. and the weight of the tank is distributed more evenly being mounted in on top of the frame rails.

Oh no worries. I don't ever get on during the weekend only when I'm at work. I know doesn't that sound kinda messed up! Hopefully the emails I sent myself will hurry up and show up. You guys will want to see what the cooling passages looked like when I tore it all down.
