The best

Not one your choices but if Hitler had used more of these during the Battle of Britain we may have had a problem.

wow i missed this thread first time around. glad it got dusted off.

my vote for the fighters is the P-51 Mustang. i am not fully up on the military history of the plane .. i just like the way it looks and note what the pilots/opponents said about them.

I also like the Me-262, though fraught with flight safety issues, it was a remarkable technical achievement for its time. apparently, a few "new" ones have been made and are doing the airshow circuits.

btw, love that move at about 2:15 in the video...inverted dive?? seems like that would be a lotta fun (or might save your life/defeat your enemy in a fight?)

Now I know it's not a WW2 plane but one of my all time fav's but I worked on the G & H model's so I am kind of partial to them.

I look at all of those as some bad *** machines... but I don't know nearly enough to call one superior or my favorite. I get kind of awe struck first by the heroic efforts to build them and then by the sheer guts it must have taken to fly one well in combat... love the machinery.

Waco Glider
I had a grandfather who was in training to pilot those when they discovered his heart problems... they busted him down to truck driver. Which he did until his first heart attack. The family always expressed that they were glad, those gliders had a poor survival rate. He passed when I was 10, I would have loved to pick his brain about so many things... I think he was the only other gearhead in the family tree.
