SHADOW OF MOTHER'S PROVING GROUNDZ
Don't know if this haz made national newz yet but but it should! Rick Snyder, the Glorious Puppet Governor to the auto industry and the great but faltering state of Michigan haz helped Generous Motorz and ALL the car dealerships in the state regardless of manufacturer by passing a law that forbids TELSA from opening up any Telsa storez in the entire state. Kinda smackz of what they did to Forest Tucker back in '48 aye? Same crap, different time!!!!!!!!!! Damn shame they have the juice to screw with the only man on the planet that seems to have found a way to create an ELECTRIC CAR THAT WORKS AND LOOKS GOOD when thousandz of trained engeneerz in every aspect of the auto industry can not:rant:Wonder what Mr Snyder would do if more then a few, flew to California , bought one drove it back and tried to register it in Michigan and the other few statez that have also made the same legislative move? Ain't it ah kick? Jer

That's in-American! Teslas are bad ***.

They're bad *** for 250 miles. Then the next day they're bad assed again.

And unfortunately the price and range, or lack of quick refueling, is an issue I have with them. Otherwise I need to two different cars one for local and one for long distance. Doesn't seem very economical nor "environment friendly". Besides think electricity is expensive now, wait til everyone gets an electric car.

These are issues that any new technoligy faces just after conception. If the technoligy works then these types of issues will dissapate.

What bothers me most about the electric/battery, composit and light weight materials used in these cars is the issue of recycling once the vehicle is no longer uasble.
Many of the materials require special haz-mat handeling which makes disposal dangerious and expensive.

How often do any of us get more then 125 miles from home? For the same reason I'll never own a 5th wheel trailer and 3500 diesel dually either. I think Stan said it best but I might be paraphrasing ah bit. "When I travel very far from home I want chocolate mints on my pillow, not sand on the sheetz"

ok but if you have to drive across country, that's now a 10 day trip or more. And yes the cost to travel may only be $20, but the hotel costs are going to kill you. And when I lived out west, 125 miles was nothing. Hell to put our boat in the water we went 195 miles one way. Granted I'm not gunna tow a boat with a tesla but long range travel on a regular basis is not uncommon for my family. It's a great idea if you live in a clustered city no doubt. Just as is a Smart. It just doesn't jive with my reality. All those 10 hour drives to Vegas would have been out too.

They aren't for everybody but I see a few around here.

And they are sexy, I'll give 'em that.

Now to the gov't picking winners and losers, well I'd rather not comment on that as I don't think I have another artery left to pop.

I will be looking at the Model 3 when it comes out. I have several ICE cars so not really worried if I have to "drive across country". On those rare times I rent a car anyway as I never take my cars long distances, renting is just way too cheap. I want a cool electric car that I can plug it into my building at work and never have to pay for fueling my car. I just call it a benefit the company doesnt know it is giving me! I looked at the leaf and the 500e....um no way! Just so dam ugly and tiny. I dont care what powers my car just as long as it looks good.... Its like the rule for manufactures is an electric car has to be ugly? Tesla at least isnt going that route.

Really stupid move by the Governor. Yeah, guys like him complain about government being too big and intrudes into our lives, until he needs it to carry out the interests of the big money that backs him. General Motors also supported the move, although both Ford and Chrysler stayed quiet. Maybe the old GM isn't quite dead yet. May Tesla clean their clocks in time - they deserve it. Yeah, states like California push EV mandates, but without that push, we will forever be using fossil fuels from a region of the world that is truly crazy and we remain hostage to them. Continuous improvement of batteries or fuel cells using fuel from renewables is the only way forward in time that will preserve the planet, that is if mankind doesn't wipe it out first. I give Elon Musk credit for his innovative thinking and carrying out his ventures - that kind of technical leadership will only benefit our country and its engineering and manufacturing compared to the rest of the world.

We do all know the majority of our oil comes from Canadia right? I'd be ok with paying higher prices at the pump and elsewhere if that meant we cut off imports from the Persian gulf. 12.9% to be exact and 8.1% from the Saudies.

I'm with you on that.

The world demand for oil just keeps climbing and it enables groups like ISIS to thrive and wreak havoc with the rest of the civilized world. China is getting smarter, and if you think California is "communist" about requiring some EV sales, it looks like China is going to make that state look like they are too bashful. China is currently pushing for some 20% EVs in the near future. Their economy will benefit from that move in the long run by promoting EV technology while we keep pushing the oil burners and wonder why our economy isn't growing. We need to increasingly look at the world globally rather than thinking the U.S. is still the clear leader in the world economy anymore.

Many claim they will run 300 miles. The elephant in the closet (besides zero net gain for the environment) is the 30k replacement battery. Essentially they will depreciate like a rock dropping as the battery age catches up. Super cool looking car otherwise, and fast. Tech will catch up, and the battery pack could be much cheaper in the future.

The problem with electric vehicles is the very same problem that was experienced with the first electric cars and trucks over 100 years ago - the battery technology simply is NOT there for a range like a gas or Diesel-powered vehicle has. A quick "fill-up" with a battery car was impossible in 1914, and it's impossible in 2014. Getting rid of lead-acid batteries was pretty easy, as they could/can be recycled. Try recycling modern electronic battery packs! Not gonna happen. Disposal and replacement are both expensive.

Electric cars are nothing more than playthings for people that can afford both the premium price of the electric car AND the price of electricity to recharge them.

I'd like to build an electric drag car or pickup. That's about all they are good for. Until someone builds a real "Mr. Fusion" mini-reactor ala "Back to the Future", electric cars will remain the impractical toys that they are now.

Why would one own a boat and live in a desert .......?

Just askin .......

I never said I was a very smart man...

More or less the wife wanted one. Resulted in short term gain, long term loss.

There are places closer but everyone from Denver crashed the local lakes. So we would go out to Glendo WY. Nice big lake, and nobody around on the non holiday weekends. Great walleye fishin'. Town was only 200 people back then, still today.

You will never see me in an electrical car ever. But I'm pissed at how all this money is spent trying to stop him. That tells me it's that good. Let Tesla into the free market dammit.

I have been saying for a while now that all new cars come with a significant environmental dept. Meaning all the rare earth materials, and basic environmental impact from manufacturing processes, that are created in making these vehicles.

Our older cars that are built with mostly metal, glass, copper and fabrics have such a low environmental dept...which has been paid for 10x's over the years...that any higher emissions that they generate are no where near what the manufacturing processes, strip mines in Africa, etc create to build your new "environmentally friendly" car.

Can't imagine the environmental dept these electric Tesla cars have.
