Remember that nice 73 Gran Sedan from a month or so ago? It just got delivered today.

Thanks to traintech55 for vetting it for me. The car is as nice as the seller's pictures. I just have to get used to a big, thin steering wheel, a seat that doesn't go back as far as I'd like and that wonderful floating suspension!

Went to put gas in it, but it took 2 1/2 gallons and started puking! I guess the gas gauge isn't working and the tank was full (low fuel light was lit). Or do I need to pump very slowly on these old cars?

I named her Esther after the wife of the owner who drove the car sparingly for all these years and never in the snow.

If the car sat for a long time there is a good chance that the float for the fuel sending unit has failed and is stuck on the bottom of the tank. Probably want to throw a full gallon gas can in the trunk and drive it till you run out of fuel. That way you can safely remove the sending unit for inspection. Try to avoid the ChiCom replacement floats as they have a very high defect rate from poor soldering techniques.

The original sending unit can be rebuilt. Probably a better alternative then the new junk.
That's when I get my friend involved...He has Corporate Blue in his veins as his father, he and his brothers all worked for Ma Mopar at one time or another and he loves taking things apart to fix.

Good on the previous owners for maintaining the car in such great shape. Beautiful car.

I loved the pics of that car congratulations! My dad bought his first Plymouth in '73 That's the car that started my love affair with Mopars. But his was a Fury I four door sedan pretty bare bones. I think it was supposed to be a taxi, it didn't even have carpet. LOL nonetheless it was a great car.
Check the ground strap on the tank before anything else with the sender issue. There used to be a metal clip bridging the rubber hose at the sending unit. Or a wire.

Deke, It was an absolute pleasure Inspecting the car for you. The original owner really had a love for this car. When Robin and I take a trip down to Florida we will have to meet up. Enjoy your new toy.

Sounds like a great friend to have! Congratulations on your purchase, nice car!

You found yourself a beautiful car. Have fun cruising it around. It will turn some heads. As mentioned earlier, check the ground strap on the sending unit first. If it’s still there, pull it off and make sure contact surfaces are clean.

I hate to bug you, but do you think you could take a nice clear straight on photo of the tire pressure sticker in the door pillar?

When my 73 was repainted last they painted over it.

Thank you.

Nick

@Deke So glad you're enjoying her. My Grandfather will be honored that you named her after his wife. She looks good in your driveway.

@traintech55 was excellent to work with in regards to the inspection. If anyone needs an inspection I'd recommend him.

For anyone interested he is also selling his 1973 Chrysler Town & Country wagon. Feel free to reach out to me if interested.
