I can't stand instructions either, give me headaches. Check out google sketchup.google "google sketchup". IMO it is very intuitive, but that is a subjective thing. You'll not be designing subs, lol...but sketchup does have 3d functionality. I think you'll make the jump from ACAD 13 to google sketchup. People do hard time for software piracy these day. Oh, yea its one hundred percent totally butt naked free.

I work with Engineers all the time. They really amaze me how intelligent they are and what they can design......quickly in my world! Catch 22......most can't even properly use a wrench to install/remove a battery clamp.

Okay…whoever said it was possible to remove the thermostat housing with the A/C compressor in place must not have done so on a '65 383. It was IMPOSSIBLE! I had to loosen the compressor and put a 2" x 2" block of wood under the compressor to be able to get at the bolt with a swivel socket. It took twice as long as it should. No biggie, just a little extra time. Now I need to find a lower radiator hose spring; mine doesn't have one.
Not that I said I told you so.....can't get that stupid bolt out on any B or RB engine with A/C. I was considering grinding a little bit of that bracket just enough to get a socket on the bolt since the compressor is braced and cross braced to the point of overkill.
As far as the spring for the lower hose....my advice is to go to AAP or AZ and ask to look at their hose rack and just find a same diameter donor lower hose with spring and just swap the spring into your lower hose.

Yeah, it wasn't that big of a deal. I was never a believer it could be done with the compressor in place, but I was hopeful. Good call on the donor hose. I asked the guy at O'Riley's if they had radiator hose springs and he looked at me like I was speaking Latin. I believe the ID is 1.75" on my hose.

Jeeeeeezus, No ****. I must have done it twice this past summer swapping out thermostats. No, not a 65 383, a 70' 383 but I don't know if that makes that much of a difference.. compressor may not be in the same exact spot...slab vs. fuselage?

Yup. The compressor is right above the bolt. I could get a box wrench in there but there would not be enough room to remove it. Much, much easier with the compressor a couple inches higher.

All that hassle of removing the compressor would make me want to seal that thermostat up forever.

It wasn't leaking, it was sticking. I had to replace the thermostat.

Right. Had a couple thermostats bomb out on me like that too.

I made my own hose spring using the stainless spring inside a pop up sprinkler head. I worked it until it was the correct diameter and it works like a charm!
Great result.....good job.
