Some shots of "Missile Park" on the main base of WSMR in New Mexico. These are different missile systems that were launched at one time or another at White Sands over the decades. Notice the photo with the "flying saucer" type craft. The government has messed around with some weird stuff over the years!

Another side trip on way home from Carlisle. Only about 1/2 hr off the 'pike. I got the same vibe as a visit to Gettysburg.

if i follow the "vibe" you're talking about, i got "it" at the Vietnam Memorial when I first saw it in 1991, and a few years back in OK City where the Murrah building was ... AND at Gettysburg a decade ago.

in fact, at the Vietnam Memorial our kids (age 5 and 3 at the time) ... just started crying for no apparent reason. Hardly anybody was around, bright beautiful morning, etc,. They of course had no knowledge of what it was .. it just made them "sad" when they touched the wall.

Shanksburg .. wow. that one? I KNOW i'd be "sad", "mad", "thankful" for their sacrifice to save others, "empathy/what would I do" as I FLY A LOT, on and on ... my head might explode cuz I'd be feeling so many things. My family ain't ready to go to that one yet..not sure I am either.

if i gotcha wrong rapidtrans, sorry. :)

You got it. Never forget!
It's amazing how quiet and solemn the crowd always gets at these sites.
You're right, gotta add the Vietnam Memorial too. IMO the most powerful monument in D.C.

In November I went up into Washington, this is from Port Angeles on the northern border, Mount Baker in the distance.

Later that day at Crescent Lake.

Almost missed the lake, took a different route without knowing to another stop and realized when I got there, on the way out I backtracked about 30 miles, glad I did.

A couple more from New Mexico......

The 1st one is the local Marshal's office....still a little bit of the 'Old West' here.
Wonder if Marshall Dillion and Chester will walk out of that door??

Next is the old Railroad Depot. Cool old building but long out of service. Now used as the local library.

Finally, some scenic shots of years gone by.........

Well ...... there goes a few mil.
Yes, you are correct. Back then the cost was in the single digit Mil's. The modern version we use now a days has its own modern cost as well. Now well into the 10's of Mil's.

Here's the modern version right at booster ignition.
Somewhere in California........
