Took a cool pic?

I was "huffin' and puffin'" trying to get the highest shot I could. The gray structure snaking through the middle of the picture and toward the left is the Great Wall of China.

Not a good weather day at the time..and its a digital picture of a Kodak 35mm photo from 1997 so some focus is lost .. but by the time we got to the Forbidden City later in the day the sun was popping out.

It was a work trip to Beijing but we took a day to be "tourists"..a rare opportunity as most international business trips are airports, hotels, offices, restaurants, and no REM sleep.

But I always wanted to see this thing since I was in grade school.

Couple more of the Gateway Arch...tallest stainless steel structure in the world.

Sorry about the "vertigo" thing but what I thought was cool about these is if you didn't know what you were looking at you might think these were corporate logos or some other stylized thing on a vivid blue background.

One "touristy" thing..my then 24 year old attempting to push the arch over. I took this photo for fun but also for a sense of scale.

She is pushing against the South leg.. the arch is obviously massive but with thinner "foundations" than I envisioned before seeing it.

Both legs by the way are filled with concrete up to 300 ft and the whole Arch weighs 25,000 tons or something like that.

Interesting story of the Arch construction. History/Discovery/one of the channels has a great documentary. Wiki has a good writeup too if interested.

Anybody seen the Nothern Lights? The Pyramids? A shooting star while sitting on their back porch? Get a space shuttle launch at night?

Kudzu consuming a delapidated Mopar?...I did but i can find it yet. Cool pic but a little sad too..looked to me to be a B-body from the '70's.

Anyway whether its the most photographed thing in the world, or you were the only one in the world to see it, consider putting it on.

You (your friends/family) make it unique because you (they) were there.

Your pictures are just looking better and better!

A C-body vert and a "ghost" house:

This is around the corner from where I live. The smoke is from the Camillus knife factory burning down. The 100 plus year old, oil soaked wooden building burnt hot and fast.

A couple days later, this is what was left.

Livingston in 1855, me in 2007

A sunrise over an innocuous plateau, sandstone hills in the distance ....

Vic. Falls Sunrise.jpg

a calm river, the Zambezi, moseying along, no real hint of what's to come ...

Vic. Falls.jpg

Victoria Falls in Africa. the scale of picture doesnt do them justice. they are quite wide..and loud

That had to be amazing .. justified use of the word there too

I will put some more of that Africa trip to the Victoria Falls (and a few other things) up when I find them.

cool on the invite. my daughter..the one we took to Phoenix in 2012 .. still works for a "major defense contractor" who also has secret operations in StL where she is now. if i asked her what she does exactly I think she'd have to put the old man down. :toothy5:

i'll be down there in June...will PM you the details as time approaches.

thanks.
