Took a cool pic?

A trip to the Holy Land 2013.

I had no "idealogical" axe to grind (others we traveled with did..but that's another story) I was there for the history/architecture/landscapes of the region.

But there was a "tension" in the air everywhere we went...it was strange, beautiful, scary all at the same time. I had an uneasy feeling the whole trip...other folks felt perfectly at home.

The Landscape outside the city..parched, desolate but still kind of stunning. An ancient settlement in the foreground of first picture. A winding road from antiquity..still in use today..in foreground of second picture.

Shanghai 2007.

Yeah, its "the downtown shot" across the Huangpu River all the business travelers take to show they were "there".

The restaurant balconies are very accomodating for this type of pic but you'd never go to these glitzy/pricey watering holes unless on an expense report.

But I happen to like nighttime citi-scapes so this shot was mine :icon_sunny:

All beautiful stuff and I cant imagine having time to go to all those places. I would need another lifetime just for site seeing.....

I only have interest to leave the country for one place and that would be Australia. North America has all I need to see and more. So much that I'll never see it all.

I'll stick with my Jersey Sunrises and sunsets........

shoot brother.... seeing the world is great and a privilege if we get the chance, but even then, SO SO many of the "best" things are still at home.

As we can clearly see, a Jersey sunrise/sunset is a marvelous thing to behold too.

Pittsburgh PA, May 2011.

The Cathedral of Learning, the iconic structure on the campus of University of Pittsburgh ("Pitt")

The view I wanted to capture myself since the Steelers won their first Superbowl...the football stadium (now gone) named for the confluence of the Monongahela (sp?), Allegheney, and Ohio rivers?

View attachment 44780

When I was in junior high a close friend of mine and myself discovered riding the bus. For less than about $3 fares and transfers we could go a lot of places, one Saturday we went to the Cathedral with the intention to walk all the steps, I forget how many and you probably can't just walk in at all nowadays. The picture of the point/downtown the yellow bridge on the right that goes into the trees, on one of my normal days I cross it 3-6 times. The one on the left I will go across on my way home if I need fuel.

I'll have to see if I can find some attractive photo's of Worcester MA., (don't hold your breath.)

im sure Worcester has some familiar sight (unfamiliar to us) that, if you took a second look at it in the right light or sky conditions, it might look pretty cool?

that whole greater "Bah-stun" area is full of history and something important must have happened in/around Worcester.

good luck. thx for helping move the post along.

Britta and I visited Rome in 2012....

Pope.jpg

We didn't make a single reservation rather scouted out endless laneways for interesting eateries. Not on a single occasion were we disappointed by anything were served and we had fun exploring on foot.
Rome - Balconies.jpg

Britta and I would wander for hours occasionally finding a spot to sit and consult the map deciding on our next destination.

Mid afternoon coffee and pastry became our daily routine. The Italians know how to make coffee.

Rome - Cafe.jpg

When visiting the Forum I was astounded to learn some of the houses had central heat with in floor heating.

Every time you turn a corner there was another surprise.

Rome - Obolisk.jpg

Around the corner from our apartment was a church with an amazing interior.

During our exploratory walks we traversed the Tiber River over ancient bridges.

The Trevi Fountain was always a crowded spot.

No trip to Rome is complete without a trip to the Vatican. Don't miss the museum.

Tel Aviv. Dan Hotel, along the Mediterranean coast. Tel Aviv is about an hour's drive west of the Old City.

Btw a seriously beautiful city that Tel Aviv. I had no idea before seeing it. I mean I knew it was a big metropolitan city and all..but it was really really nice...art, architecture, nightlife, etc... and what a beach :)

Below, one of the sculptures outside Mao's Mausoleum. Inside the bulding, Mao's in there under glass (we didnt go in). Sculptures outside have extraordinary workmanship and that's what got my attention.

And you've never been to Carlisle?

Once...2002. Left mad because I didn't have the lettuce to buy everything I wanted :icon_pirat:.

Seriously, work sent me all over the world. It dominated my time for 25 years....like 100 hours a week -- no kidding -- because somewhere in the world something under my responsibility was up and running.

Anyway, things are slower now...i will get more chances to do things like Carlisle.
