Since 2020 has been such a crap year. I may have jacked it up more.

More to come in the daylight.

But as the saying goes, old truckers do not have a mid life crisis, they just get a new Peterbuilt.

Dave

But, it's not a Peterbuilt.
Yup, I have owned my last Pete.
I was a died in the wool Pete owner until a short stint as a company driver in a KW, also did time in a newer Pete. It's hard to believe they are owed by the same parent company. Not even on the same level.

Did feel like I was cheating on my old Pete driving the new one home.

That's a lot bigger problem than just a mid-life crisis if anyone gets a new peterbuilt, much less a trucker. A trucker may buy himself a new truck though... Maybe a Peterbilt... :poke:

So... Give us all the specs on it. I'm on the edge of my seat. Oh, and the pics, of course.

A red Cummins ISX engine, 18 spd, it's white exterior and gray int.. It is comfortable inside, definitely too quiet, will be remeding that this spring if the pipes under there make it through winter.
It needs some TLC and some jewelry.
I'm going to miss my old Pete, but not freezing every time it gets below 25°f will be nice.

Some daytime pics please. I hear those ISX's are a horse when deleted. I'm keeping my old girl. After 16 years my butt has the seat about broken in.

You caved. I thought you were never using an ELD.
No ELD staying on local time sheet exemption. I can still go outside of my 150 air mile 6 or 8 times in a 30 day period, which is no problem I'm not going outside 150 air miles in a 365 period.

FYI, The ISX has had multiple issues with the EGR valve and it will set you back about $800-$1200 every time it comes in. NOX emissions go up on a failing EGR and that triggers the engine to go into limp mode. Also issues with the DEF pumps. Def will form crystals if it is exposed to sunlight and that makes the metering system go Fubar. All in all though the engine itself is very reliable. I would still take a Detroit 60 of an old 250 Cummins any day, robust, simple and reliable: but this is today's world of emissions etc in which we live.

friends of mine have a large fleet. couple years ago i asked him when the cel light comes on when its out on the road and out of warranty what is the average cost. it was around 5k. for a big fleet that might not hit them as bad but for an owner operator that would seam to take a hard hit in the pocket.

Could be worse. Engine could have yellow paint on it.

not yellow paint in that fleet anymore. i did see pictures of the mercedes engine that just disintegrated not much was left of it. if i remember rite it was a bad turbo.

I think the most bulletproof one was the DDEC3 Series 60 with the N14 Cummins a close second.

Fuel mileage winner is DDEC 3 no contest. They started dicking with low Nox software on DDEC 4 and they lost a MPG +/- across the board. EGR started in 03 and they all sucked after that.

CAT stands for Can't Afford This...

That 2 piece crankshaft I just replaced in my 99 brings the grand total to $65k in 3 years and it has less than a million miles on it from new.
