When Ford fired Holman-Moody. 1972 Ford Fired the race car fabrication shop Holman-Moody of Charlotte, NC. During an audit it was learned that rumors of cooking the books where true as $10 million dollars was not accounted for. Holman-Moody was to Ford what Petty Enterprises was to Chrysler. The Holman-Moody company no longer fielded its own race cars, but continued to build cars & parts for other Ford racers. The company still exist today, but mainly selling vintage camshafts & T shirts & doing some machine work.

Thanks for the Pics!! I had never heard about the cooked books at H-M. I always wondered what happened to the "factory" cars when they pulled out of racing. Did Nichels do the same? Loved the 'Doba pic. Chrysler sponsored by a Honda dealer! I heard somewhere that it was Dick Brooks that initially "Dropped the Dime" on Hendricks, is that true? Not enough "Thanks" buttons!

Dick Brooks was a very well liked driver. After he retired from driving he tried some announcing & it seems like he tried being a team owner too. I imagined be the Honda deal was something he got help with from Rick Hendricks & a guy named Bilmeyer who was a good friend of Hendrick & was the head or Honda North America. Ford still had Bud More & the Woods Brothers after the Holman-Moody split

Bristol Motor Speedway didn't have an opening big enough to allow the big tractor trailer rigs into the infield until the mid 90's. So the teams that had those rigs would set up outside the track & trailer their cars & equipment in. Here in 1977 Richard Pettys Charger is being towed in

At least the fans could see more of the track!!!

Norman Negree. He was a life long MOPAR racer & owns a chassis shop that his son Ned now runs. Several drivers drove his MOPARS over the years including Dale Earnhardt Sr & Dave Marcus.

Cecil Gordon & his Chrysler Imperial. Cecil bought this car from Norman Negree & raced it 8 times during one season before retiring after a long career in which he most ran Chevys. He sold the Imperial to Buddy Arrington
