My visit to the the Walter P. Chrysler Museum on 12/21/2012. I'm glad I was able to cross it off my list before it closed to the the public. It was an enjoyable day with Matt and my Brother Mike.

Today was the first day that I had time to process and post all the pictures at one time. That was a great day. I really liked riding on Woodward Ave and seeing the dream cruise route and all the other Motor City landmarks.

Great photos! I really enjoyed them. What is that last blue car? Was is a concept, I don't recall ever seeing a car like that before?

Yes, I believe it was a concept car designed by Ghia. It is beautiful and the paint is outstanding on the car. Matt, do you remember the particulars of that car?

That is the 1952 (some sources call it a 1953) Chrysler Special concept, designed by Exner, built by Ghia. There are a number of variants of this design, including one called the Thomas Special. Apparently Ghia built a total of 18 versions of them, with minor differences over time. I believe they were based on a New Yorker chassis, with the Hemi V-8 and a Poer Flite transmission. Pretty cars.

I understand it is one of only two left...
if I was told I could go in that museum and leave behind the wheel of just one of the cars, it might be that one.

You gave me emough info to find the low down. It is a 1953 Ghia Special. Here is a really nice artical on it on the Imperial Club site. http://www.imperialclub.com/Articles/53GhiaSpecial/index.htm

There was a very small group (maybe 4 people) that were getting a special behind the scenes tour going the opposite direction we were going and they spent a lot of time discussing that car. I was moving about quite a bit trying to get a good camera angle on 20 foot long cars. They have them packed in quite tight and I didn't have a wide angle lens with me.
