Was this rear window an option in 1967?

I've been told this rear window is usually found only on LeBaron models, not Crown sedans. Every other sedan I can find pics of has the larger back glass. It looks factory to me, and it seems the car never had a vinyl top. Anyone have any thoughts? I find it hard to believe someone would install this on their own. The headliner looks factory as well. This car also has the reading lights in the C pillar along with the lower door courtesy lights.

Didn't I read somewhere that this may have been a high government official car or a diplomat car?
Imperial did stuff like that for people with money up the kazoo.
It was NOT an option on the Base 4 DR. SED.
Your car was ordered by someone with clout

The lineup in '67 was like this:

Base: 2 DR. H.T, 4 DR. SED.
Crown: 2DR. H.T, 4 DR. H.T. - NO 4 DR. SED.
LeBaron: 4 DR. H.T. - NO 4 DR. SDN.

The Base 4 Dr. Sed. back light is always like this (except in your case):

The LeBaron 4 Dr. H.T. back light:

NOW..
Here's the interesting part.
Imperial "Service Cars" were all based on the sedan chassis.
You sir, have a Service Car. They were almost all sent out to coachbuilders.

Does the VIN indicate a non LeBaron ?
As a 4dr. pillared sedan this car should even be a standard Imperial, no Crown or LeBaron I even think.

Since the seats were replaced, I would assume there is no build sheet under there.
If anybody can find any 1967 Imperial Service Car (or sometimes called Black Cars) literature, I'm willing to bet that Service Cars were sedans with the LeBaron rear window.
Find a pic of a 67 Imp funeral procession car and that would prove it.

I wouldn't assume anything, look under the seats, the build sheet might still be in the springs. I almost gave up on mine and found the only build sheet in my 78 NYB behind the driver seat back springs.

This is an interesting list, my factory/dealer option code book list them as follows
BODY TYPE ORDER CODES
YM-41 CROWN 4-DOOR SEDAN
YM-23 CROWN 2-DOOR HARDTOP COUPE
YM-43 CROWN 4-DOOR HARDTOP
YM-27 CROWN CONVERTIBLE
and
YH-43 LE BARON 4-DOOR HARDTOP

I could find no references for the smaller window as an option or references to it on the sedan in the parts book.
Now I do know that they will build anything you want but probably not in onesies twosies.
I'd guess this car was probably part of a fleet/bulk purchase maybe by one of the coachbuilders.

Interesting. Based on your #'s, I found this for 1967 in a Google search.

YM41-7.......4 Door Sedan
YM41-8 ......4 Door CROWN Sedan

-7, -8?

If a coach builder got their hands on this car a build sheet might not be with it anymore but it'd be worth a look.

Hey guys, thanks for the info. The fellow I got the car from said he thought the govt had ordered this car (he had no proof) pulled it off the line and repainted it black. If that's the case they painted everything, inside and out. I'm wondering if the car had a vinyl top and the standard window prior to the repaint and the factory installed the smaller glass and left the vinyl top off. The fender plate bottom line has this sequence of numbers: YM41 815 835 105 14690 the line above that: AX-2 TRM-M1D PNT-BB1 UBS-E 8 the alphabet row above that: D-9 JK-38 QRS-941 XY-16 does any of this help?

I will check the seats, there was nothing in the glove box. I have to admit I like the idea of a special car, (from a seller standpoint) if it's true.

It is usually on top of the glove box....under the dash pad. Sometimes they put them under the carpet. It still might be intact if it's under the carpet and it didn't get wet.

I don't have my secret decoder ring here at work, so this is just a start.
D-9 - Disc Brakes
J-3
K-8 - Power Windows
Q-9 - Sentinel Lighting
R-4 - Radio (not the base)
S-1 - Air Conditioning
X-1 - Non tinted windows?
Y-6 - Black Vinyl Top

YM-41 - Chrysler Imperial 4 Door Sedan
81 - 440cid 4-bbl V8
5 3-Speed Automatic
83/5 Tires
105 - January 5, 1967
14960 - Shipping Order Number

I can fill in the blanks when I get home but I'm pretty sure this is correct.

This is an odd ball car. I initially thought LeBaron when I saw the LeBaron roof treatment, not noting it is a sedan...which means it SHOULD be a Crown with a larger rear window, as already covered so well by Commando1.

I believe that this car would have had a vinyl top because it was the practice at the factory to do so with these roofs...but then again LeBarons were supposed to be 4 dr hardtops.

I'm standing by my theory.
Like Cadillac and Lincoln, Imperial had what was called a "Black Car" model. It was for the government, professional, commercial, etc. industry. A luxury taxi. The "Black Car" from Imperial was the 4 Dr. Sed. with the Crown window.
And I'm going to take a stab that the official model designation was YM41-8.

My build sheet was in the seat back of the rear seat and I have not found another anywhere else. I'm not even sure they made clear glass for an Imperial, my non a/c Crowne Coupe has tinted and an Airtemp decal in the back window.
