Just wanted to see if someone out there with an old C body could tell me how many amps their washer fluid motor pulls when activated.

Back story: I changed out my wiper motor a couple of years back but never used it when I was simultaneously running the wipers. About a year ago I finally did hit it when the wipers were running and it caused the wipers to dead stop. Then they would slowly try to move. It looks like the wiper switch breaker was being thrown. So I had the switch rebuilt but the problem persists.

The motor is pulling 5-6 amps. I’m wondering if this is much more than the OEM motor and that’s what’s causing the issue?

The pic is the motor I bought about 2 years ago.

Thanks for any info!

Considering that motor is basically running at "low load" to push water to the nozzles, I can not see it causing that much of a load UNLESS it is corroded internally and the washer nozzle system is clogged.

When I was driving our '66 Newport, when it was a "used car" (we bought it in Oct '66 with 7100 miles), NEVER had the issue you describe.

Might be an issue in the bulkhead connector and related terminals? How much does the Alt gauge discharge when your problem happens?

I think 5-6 amps is about right. Just because I was curious, I did some searching on the intrawebs and I kept seeing 6 amps for washer pump draw on other brands. So 5-6 amps really sounds about right.

What you could have is some compromised wiring or maybe the plug at the firewall being a bit corroded. Something like that could cause that to happen.

Thanks to you both for your replies. I am going to check out the wiring and the connector and see if maybe that’s where the issue lies.
Much appreciated!
