The new beater.. The Cadi drove like a typical GM. this reminded me of the magnum to a T. Has nit picky issues, and as all Mercedes it's a ticking time bomb with the sbc. Walked away with it for $2800.

Well it's better than a Honda...:poke:

I hope it serves you well!

Nice Pacifica whoops R class :icon_fU:

E class. E320. I thought it was a C240 initially because there's no badging. He was asking 5K, I hit him at the right time. About an hour before he left to go lease a new vehicle. I feel pretty comfortable with it, the guy only lives about 8 doors down from me. He stopped by today for the second time since Friday night to visit his car. Told him anytime he want to take it for a spin lemmie know.

This was the other hoopty I looked at;
Real nice 1997 Cadillac

LOTS....Like more than I would normally look at. but service records are there and it drove better than my Magnum did at 30k. I took it with 200k on the clock. As I said I needed a beater.

It has the potential to keep going a lot longer, but service issues on these can suck. I gave up on owning the brand a while after I left the dealer. It was easier with discounted parts and a factory scan tool at my disposal. FYI the 13k oil change interval is fine, but only if you use mobil 1 and the factory fleece filter. Standard oil will turn to "jello" by the next oil change. The brake by wire system is downright dangerous to work on if not deactivated. As soon as you touch the door handle, the brakes wake up and test apply. I have done pads without the scan tool... but you need to unplug the abs pump to stay safe... codes can easily be set. MB recommends not disconnecting the batteries as you have a zillion control modules that will need to be reinitialized.
2003 E and SL came out and I honestly don't see much work a person can do to them without access to the factory scan equipment.

A friend of mine bought a 2003 E class with only 80K miles on it about 3 months ago. He thought it drove really nice. Just after he got it, though, it seemed like everything was going bad all at once. The moonroof stopped working, the power seat stopped working, he needed to do some suspension work, and other little things that drove him crazy. After paying $8k for his and dropping another $4K into repairs in the first two months, he immediately sold it and swore off any Mercedes ever again, unless it was a really old one. He got an 80K miles 1995 Chevrolet Caprice Classic with the LT1 engine and he loves it now. No problems so far. At that bugger is fast! Really cold a/c and drives well.

That many miles with the service records probably means it will be fine. If the guy is coming to visit it he must be pretty confident in it.

I would make a smart aleck comment like I don't speak German but I am looking at a VW Passat with a TDI so I will remain quiet. Lol

Steve: I've had my '95 Caprice 9C1-LT1 for over five years now. You are right. It is very fast and its a wonderful road car.

I had two GM B-bodies from the final run.
95 Impala SS
96 Roadmaster Wagon
I would kill to have either one of them back.

hate to say it but my first thought on seein' that m-b was the cheapest thing you'll ever do with it is purchase it. the other choice, northstar caddy is about as bad. '96 rwd fleetwood one of the nicest cars i've ever driven. hopefully at 200k all the problems that were going to happen with the m-b have already happened and you'll be good from here. sometimes older is actually better.
