What did you do to your C-body today....

Drove dumbo to work. Beautiful day about 75 & sunny. I take the canyon roads and it’s a really nice drive. If I see more than one car I’m cursing my SoCal commute Lol!!! Car got pissed stuck in the drivethru at Del Taco but came around after a freeway jaunt at 70 for a half hour on the way home. Good enough to bail off in Acton and two lane it home. Works over and I’m ready for the weekend !!! Happy fourth everybody!!!

I put my Real gasket Tennessee on my valve covers. LH side which I replaced when I had my head softplug leak whe I first started it up was leaking. It was a Fel-Pro VS 50145 R. The right side had the cork/ silicone gasket that I had originally built the engine with and came in the engine rebuild kit. It t did not leak.
Installed the new orange gaskets. I did not like the orange tabs sticking out so I painted them engine color. If the paint doesn’t stick I will trim wit a razor blade.

RH style not leaking.

Found new springs for my radiator hoses. Urban Legend says I don’t need them as newer molded hoses are stronger and if your hose collapses, you have more issues. Also read that they were needed in the factory for vacuum filling the cooling system on the line to keep the hoses from collapsing. Anyway mine still had them. I cleaned them up and put them back in when I did my restoration. I wasn’t sure I liked the shape of them as I was a afraid that over time they would start putting particles through my system. I found some Stainless steel ones online from CH Pony Parts marketed as small block Mustang Lowe radiator hose springs. They look good to me.

I put my transmission pan, real gasket Tennessee on tonight. We will see if it is good as they say. Again my pan wasn’t dripping but had residual oil seeping out of the gasket around the bolt holes.
It would go for weeks with no dripping and then I would find a small bit on the floor. Hope it is fixed for good now.
Even though I only had 2,300 miles on it I decided to change the filter while it was open. Very little clutch residue in the bottom of the pan and the oil looked like a good red wine and no burnt smell.

Replaced failed master cylinder. Next is brake bleed, oil change and headliner install.

The old master cylinder is not the correct one. It did not have the front piston retaining screw. My FSM shows that screw and the new one has it. It worked, though.

Rockauto had this master cylinder (for manual brakes) for $72 (wtf?). OReilly had it for $35 plus core.

Inspired by the progress CBarge made on his 69 Fury package tray I decided to do mine. This 43-year-old material sure is thirsty for paint. I’m on my 2nd can and still need more. These are before pictures. I’ll take (after) pictures once it’s done.

Also noticed on the rear deck, there appears to be a cut out for the rear defroster option I’m assuming.. anyone??
View attachment 381961
Also cut outs for (3) speakers although only two were present, or should I say what’s left of them. Can someone educate me on why there’s three holes?
Was there a (3) speaker option?

Lastly. Does anyone have a line on where I can get the same style sound deadening material that laid under the package tray? As you would expect the 43-year-old material just crumbles in your hand. If no leads on that same style material, what would you suggest I use?

Thx in advance for the input.

As mentioned, the "3rd speaker hole" and groove are for rear defrost...all Formals have them. Theses are remnants of the rear defog systems offered in the 74 Formals. From 75 on Mopar offered the grid on the rear glass for this option.

Still waiting for my radiator to be re-cored. Shipping of the core plus 4th of July Holiday slowed it down should be ready Monday. Also sent my drive shaft off to get rid of my vibration. Idle hands have me tweaking things. Fuel pump seemed to have a little Oil leakage around the Gasket. Easy to access with the radiator out of the way. I noticed that there seemed to be some seeping around the inlet hose. I couldn’t remember if I had put a new fuel pump on when I rebuilt the engine in 2006 or not. I knew I had changed it along side the road around Wheatland Wyoming around 1988. It had relatively few miles on it since then Anyway the inlet was squeezed a little probably from taking the old hose off. New now. Fuel push rod had little to no wear. I found some scrapes and scratches on the bottom of my oil pan, so I did some masking and painting.
Also found some Petrified mud in my rear frame rails. Turns out to be mud dauber wasp or hornet nests. The driving and vibrating must have finally broken them loose. Cleaned those out, I have some internal frame rail coating that I am going to spray in there. I am wondering if they originally had plugs on the frame rail holes?
Next decide if I want to undercoat or not. Originally it was. Some areas were under coated and painted body color during the restoration. I like the body color underneath, but also lean towards original look. I do have paint to paint over the undercoating if I want. I will have to think about it.

What I might do while waiting on my radiator.
Some Real Gaskets Tennessee. I have some seeping I don’t like. Valve cover and transmission bolts. About 1 drip a week, but has an oily sheen.

I've got some seeping

GEEZ!!! I feel like a Schlub, all I did was check the tires, fluids and drove it.....

Since it’s down I figured I should tackle some of the things on my hit list. I am hoping I am back up and running by Wednesday or Thursday. Then nothing more is coming apart until winter. And even then I shouldn’t have anything else to do.

KENNY!!! I blame you for all this aggravation!! If your 78 had a Sunroof, it’d be in my driveway now READY for Carlise.. but NOOOOOOO!!

Love you!! Mean it.. lol

Thanks John Boy. Sunroof's are over rated.

Got one on my Lotus... took it out completely maybe once in 18 years.
Windows up, Windows down, Windows cracked open a little, roof open, roof open a bit, roof open but closed a bit. Do the sunroof dance and shake it all around:rofl:.

Missed you at Carlisle...
Talk too you soon.

Went to coffee in Big Red and got home to find the water pump leaking on it. Pulled the spare off the shelf and swapped it out. All is well again....

Ill trade you headaches, Saturday night we left the family barbecue and made it a half mile. Front seal blew in the trans. Pulled it back to there house on a rope. Pulled the trans yesterday and dropping it off tonight. Hopefully have it back in next weekend.
So much for waiting till end of summer..

I picked up this 67 Newport Custom last fall, I'm the third owner. Never winter driven, and I believe it because it's rock solid. Sorry if this doesn't qualify for just what I've done to it today, been picking away at it. Alot of the interior chrome was pitted so I've replaced door handles, arm rest bases, window cranks, done light and some of the dashboard trim. New wheels and tires, new rear leafs and all new shocks and rebuilt the carb. These cars drive so nice and they especially shine at highway speeds!!

Wow! That interior is beautiful! How about some exterior pics? Excuse me if you've already done that.
And yes, these cars are meant for the open road. The Newport puts a smile on my face me everytime I get in it.

OUCH! I'm sorry to hear about your misfortune! But all will be well again!

You want me to show off my car?? Absolutely! This is my fourth 67, although the others I had 35+ years ago. As you can see, the paint is shot, owner #2 left it sitting outside. I'm planning on switching to front disc brakes, so I changed over to 15 inch wheels. Factory options include A/C, right side mirror and am/fm. Great cars, all of them
