Dumb question but my buddy just got a 1975 imperial and I was looking at it and I noticed a three prong connector was unplugged from that black box. I plugged it back in figuring it was a voltage regulator but it changed nothing, the car was still running perfectly as it was before. Later that night I was trying to find the box just to know what it is and couldn’t find anything on it no rock auto no advanced auto. I know it’s factory I just would like to learn what it is.
Thank you,
Dylan Bobek

One of those POS emission controls that seldom worked. you probably will not notice any difference leaving it unplugged. The EGR valves on these cars do not play well with blended fuels. EGR usually carbons up at some point and sticks open. This causes poor performance and an actual increase in pollutants. You might want to consider disconnecting the vacuum line to the EGR before it screws up.

Like said above as far as EGR stuff.... I usually get rid of that stuff...it's useless. If it's an all-original car.... then I'd figure out how to make it all just look the part and go on.
